"You what?!!"
Eren cringed at the tone of his sister's voice. He didn't think she'd react like this...
"You heard me."
"Eren, are you out of your mind?" she screamed, ripping apart his eardrums. Eren moved the receiver away from his ear as Mikasa blew up. "You guys can barely afford the building! How can you afford to pay an employee now?" her voice was laced with distress.
"Mikasa," Eren started calmly. "I told you... Mom isn't feeling great after the whole ordeal and she has to take it easy. I can't do everything on my own..." Eren shrugged. "So I figured; why not?"
"YOU'RE BROKE IS WHY NOT, EREN!" Mikasa shrieked. "You can't just take a random guy off the street and expect all your worries to be washed away! Who knows of he's even trustworthy..." she added, face palming. "Eren... What'll we have to do with you? You keep goofing off, no wonder you guys are going bankrupt. Maybe if you actually cared about mom she wouldn't have to be sick all the time..." she snorted.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING UNCARING?" Eren yelled, losing his temper quick. "I WOULDN'T TALK IF I WAS THE ONE ENJOYING THE LIFE IN AMERICA, GETTING THE BIG BUCKS WITH A STUPID ACTING JOB..." he screeched, slamming his hands down on the counter. "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MOM, OR ME, OR HIM, OR ANYTHING. FRANKLY, YOU MADE THE DECISION TO CUT ALL CONNECTIONS WITH US THE SECOND YOU WALKED OUT THAT FRONT DOOR A YEAR AGO!"
Eren's face was hot with rage. Those words had been bottled up for a long time, and it felt good to let them out. Eren looked across the room an met eyes with a rather shy looking Levi.
"I didn't know that's how you felt." she replied curtly, and he heard her hang up. Eren sat back down on the stool and slammed the phone in its cradle, almost a bit shaken himself by the words he just spoke.
"Sorry about that," the boy said, ashamed. "We aren't usually like that, I promise."
Levi nodded. "I get it..." he shook his head a little. "I seem to cause only havoc wherever I go." he said quietly to himself.
"What? No!" Eren exclaimed. "You've been such a help so far. If only I could pay you more!"
Levi shrugged. "As long as I have a roof over my head and a bit of food, I'm happy. I can't thank you enough for your help, really, Eren. Words can't even describe."
"Well, of it weren't for you, we wouldn't be getting nearly as many customers as we get usually. I can't believe how this has been working!"
Levi had been playing music on his violin outside of the bakery during the day to attract customers. It worked like a charm:
his music was so lovely it attracted almost everyone. Business was better for Eren, which meant he could pay Levi a bit and care for his mother all at once."Don't listen to mikasa, she doesn't know anything."
"You said she's an actress?"
"Yeah," Eren said, rolling his eyes. "She's doing a show called "Attack on Titan". I don't really know what it's about, but apparently it's directed by that stupid snob guy... Um... Who was it again?" Eren said as he racked his brain. "Oh, yeah, Erwin Smith."
Levi's jaw dropped. "Erwin...?"
