Chapter Three

Red All Over

People say you shouldn't follow things blindly,  but I couldn't help myself. Something felt off about this balloon, the steadiness,  and the way it shined like a polished ruby in the glimmering sunlight. Before I knew it,  I was walking back through the shady groves of Derry, and let me say this, my heart was about right out of my chest. Something felt off,  I felt it in my stomach, but, I couldn't stop following, until I heard a yell of agony behind me. I hid behind the nearest tree and looked to see the 'new kid' or Ben,  I should say, running towards the river, the whoops and taunts of Henry Bowers and his gangsta far behind him. I decided to follow Ben, and let the red balloon. He barely acknowledged my existence,  except with a slight nod in my direction as he continued his sprint down river, panting and groaning from time to time. By the time we had made it to the mouth of the river, Ben stumbled and fell onto the jagged rock,  falling on his hands and knees. "Ben! " I called out in dismay, running to his side. "Holy shit! What happened to him? " a voice not too far away said. That's when I saw him again. The guy who makes me heart flutter and blood rush to my face…
"Mr. Trashmouth"I said,  looking into his big doe eyes full of mischieve. His mouth turned up into a lazy sideways smile before turning his attention back at Ben. Somehow we moved from the tunnels to Maine street in an instant,  a blur of Eddie going on about so infection or another,  and blood. Lots,  and lots of blood. The Losers club as I knew it,  was crumbling,  and scattering around like worker  ants carrying  on without their queen. No direction,  and no sense of planning. As the scene unfolded before me,  I shook my head at the group,  " Guys! " I said,  semi yelling. " Eddie, Stanley,  Bill, go get some supplies from the Pharmacy.  Richie and I will stay here with Ben to make sure he's okay." Everyone nodded  at me before making a break for the only pharmacy store around town. Ben kept distorting his face in pain,  taking in shallow calming breathes and looking straight ahead. I patted his shoulder in comfort " You'll be okay Ben,  we'll get you all patched up and good as new before you know it, " I said,  smiling a bit at him. He looked up at me and only nodded a bit,  pulling his lips back a bit before scrunching up his face again in agony. " Glad we could meet ya before you died. " "Richie! ",I said,  smacking him a bit.""What'd I say?! "
