Wednesday Night

"Do not eat my Legos, Miss Kitty." Glen scratched his grey and white cat between her ears beneath the table where he assembled his Lego Millenium Falcon. He picked up the tiny Lego she had been chewing on and placed it in the pile. "You must be hungry, Miss Kitty." He got up and opened a can for the cat and then one for himself - hearty chicken soup.

While Miss Kitty enjoyed her canned cat food, Glen sat down on the couch with his steaming bowl of soup. What was he going to watch tonight before bed? He decided on The Expanse - excellent Amazon Prime science fiction.

This show was so good and he didn't know anyone who liked science fiction enough to discuss it with him, so he kept it to himself, but it needed to be discussed with someone. At least he had the internet.

"Meow?"

"And you, Miss Kitty. You are very sweet, but you are not the same as a girlfriend." Miss Kitty put her ears back when he hugged her.

The next time the cat made a sound he could swear she said "Huang?"

"Ms. Huang is not my girlfriend, she's my, um . . . I have no idea." He bit his lip and sighed. A girlfriend would cuddle up with him on the couch and watch The Expanse.

"Meow?"

"Why? I don't know, maybe I should try to make her my girlfriend. Or um, I certainly couldn't make her do anything, I just have to change the nature of our relationship somehow. Ok, so, when we started she said 'This is just sex. Okay?' and I just kinda said 'Okay" because what the heck else was I gonna say? She is the sexiest and most confident woman in Loveland. And she is WAY out of my league."

"Meow."

"Now? Yeah. I guess I should do something now. But what? She deserves a guy like Victor, not a nerd like me."

"Meow!"

"Victor would call her an idiot and then send her flowers and whisk her off somewhere on the other side of the globe. This requires money. Mine is limited and his is not so limited."

Glen sat up on the couch and put down his soup bowl and picked up his phone. He opened up his banking app to check the balance. But maybe he could? Credit exists. He had some money saved. If he wanted this woman to be his he was going to have to treat her the way she deserved to be treated - Spoiled. He can't just get some motel and invite her. He had to find a way to tell her he wanted more. That was the moment he was certain that he did.

He looked at his cat. "I want more. I want her. She's the girlfriend I want."

He spent the rest of the night on various travel websites. This was going to be worth it.
