I STARTLE awake, groaning when I sit up too fast.
I shouldn't have done that.
I put pressure on my ribs and have trouble breathing again. I hiss in pain and turn my head to lookout the back window. The sun is barley up in the sky, however the snow has stopped. "I wish this was a dream." I whisper to myself.
I sigh looking over to the drivers seat, to see no Phoenix. Panic floods through me, he's not here. "Phoenix?" I say. Groaning come's from underneath me? I look down and nearly scream. How did he get underneath me!? The position we are in, doesn't look right.
Don't panic Neva.
To make things worse, he starts to wake up! His brown eyes flutter open, squinting when the little bit of sun shines into them. Just let me die right now! I'm sitting on his stomach with my legs on either side of him. Plus both his hands were resting on my hips. I wish a big giant hole would swallow me up right now. His eyes soon focus in on me and I mentally shrink myself.
I quickly look out the window, pretending like I didn't notice he woke up. "Morning." his gruff voice breaks the silence. I finally look at him with my green eyes. "Morning." I respond quietly. He sits up slowly and hangs onto me. I know what you're thinking!
Why am I not doing anything about this? Well, I'm afraid to get hit.
"Snows up to the doors, but it stopped for now." I say.
He nods and sighs. "Well we better get a move on." he says, taking his hands off my hips. I quickly get off of him, thanking the Lord that I didn't stutter over my words. "Got any food in here?" I ask. He throws me a granola bar. Phoenix stares at me with a twinkle in his eye. "What?" I ask not in the mood for funny business.
He shrugs and a smug smile appears on his handsome face. "You look flustered." he simply says. I choke a little on the granola bar, that I was chewing. I cough and force out "am not." Phoenix laughs out loud. "Yeah, you are." he covers his mouth with his hand to hide his smile. I roll my eyes and continue eating.
In all honesty, I am bright red. "Okay, put this on." he throws me another jacket. "I already have one on." I say as he hands me another pair of gloves. "We have sixty miles to walk, do you want to freeze and die out here?" his voice turns serious, but his eyes says he's joking. I put on the even heavier jacket and zip it up. Phoenix helps me put on the gloves one by one.
Why is he so close all the time?
"Doe's that bother you?" Did I say that out loud? I'm staring aren't I. Stop staring Neva! I shake my head a little and come back to reality. "Uh." I figure out what to say. I wanted to punch that stupid smirk off his face. "We should get going." I frown and try to open the passenger side door. Doesn't budge, so I put all my weight on it, nothing. Nothing happened. "It won't open." what Phoenix doe's next, make's me roll my eyes.
He opens up a sliding window in the back.
"Can you even fit through that?" I question.
"Calling me fat?" he jokes.
I look him over and shake my head no. He's buff but not fat. "No, but you can." I open my mouth protest at him. He holds a hand out to stop me. "You're climbing out of this window and you'll open the door from the outside." his eyes trail down to my ribs. "Just be careful." I huff and climb into the back again! He pulls the beanie down further onto my head. "You got a nasty bruise on your head." he goes to touch it, but I flinch back on instinct. He furrows his eyebrows.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." I try to shake it off.
"Then why'd you flinch?"
