PART I: FIRSTS

Ryan Beaumont was Andy Fowler's very first kiss.

They were in third grade, and bonded since kindergarten when sharing food. Back then, it was very simple to form friendships.

"My parents kissed today," Rye had announced, as he swung across the monkey bars. His hands were already forming calluses, used to it due to recess being every morning and afternoon. He preferred going on the swingsets, but he needed someone to push him, and he only trusted his parents to do that.

"What is that?" Andy wondered aloud. He watched his best friend climb back to him and land on the platform, feet making a thudding sound.

"Y'know..." Rye giggled. "Kissing." His brown eyes carried a humorous glint to them, like he did something he shouldn't.

Andy didn't know, but nodded his head like he did. He felt left out, already being the shortest boy in their grade, and slow at reading. Now this kissing thing was just another confusing concept. He frowned, but then an idea passed through his mind. "Can we do kissing?"

It was honestly a genius plan, as he would find out without asking a lot of questions.

"Okay." Rye stepped closer to Andy, smiling.

Andy suddenly felt nervous, but waited, and suddenly Rye's mouth was on his'. It was a fleeting second, but felt so much longer than that.

Andy could feel a tingling sensation, and he smiled.

Kissing was nice.

They didn't understand until later how much of a taboo subject it was, two boys kissing.
