Chapter One: A day in a Hearts' Life

Lizzie Hearts

As I woke up, I heard the sound of card guards marching across the palace grounds. I think they're in the middle of training. I hope that they dont get too tired from training because you see my mother is a very very very strict queen.

I fixed my bed and took a bath. I just love the design of my bathroom. The walls are painted with red, black and yellow diamonds. The floors are tiled with small cards. It has a golden bathtub and a golden shower. It has a small chandelier with yellow lights.

I slowly went into the bath tub. I'm going to have a nice bubble bath today. My bathroom has the aroma of cinnamon and vanilla. Pretty fascinating in my opinion.

After bathing, I chose my red and black gown to wear for the meeting with the Wonderland residents of our kingdom.

I headed downstairs and made it to the royal throne room.

Maids: Good Morning, your highness!

The maids said as they curtsied. I gave them a little nod.

Lizzie: Good Morning to you too!

I sat down on my mother's left side. My throne is a bit smaller compared to my mother's throne since she is the queen and I'm just a princess.

Queen: First resident!

A young man enters with a basket of heart-shaped cookies for the queen.

Queen: Speak.

The little boy bowed to the queen.

Boy: My name is Cedric, your Majesty.

Queen: What do you want, Cedric?

Boy: I humbly ask for help, your highness. For I am lost and I cannot find my parents. I saved a little puppy from being run over by a carraige. When I tried to find my parents, they were gone and I ended up here.

Cedric had tears in his eyes. I pitied him. He should be rewarded for the small heroic act he did. I just hope that mother feels the same way.

Queen: So you mean you're the one who left them. You exchanged your parents for some petty little dog?! Don't you have any respect to your mother and father?! OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!

Cedric started crying. Mother was too unfair. She always thinks that her way of ruling is right.

I stood up and approached Cedric. I wiped his tears and talked to him.

Lizzie: Don't worry Cedric, I'll help you find your parents. I promise.

I hugged Cedric and he hugged me back. It was a great feeling. I would love to help my subjects, but mother gets in the way.

Cedric bowed and left. I smiled at him and he smiled back.

I turned around and saw mother's furious face. She doesn't like it when I interfere with matters like these.

Mother: Are you mad, Lizzie? Didn't I tell you to sit here and look pretty?!

Lizzie: First and foremost, I am not mad, mother. Second, I just can't stand sitting pretty while your way of ruling is unfair and cruel.

Mother stood up and brought me to my room holding my wrist very tightly.

Mother: You do not have the right to question how I rule my kingdom. It is tradition. Act the way you have to act.

Lizzie: I am acting the way a princess must act. We should treat our subjects as our equals. Imagine as if you were in their place.

Mother: I am not tolerating this kind of behaviour. You have to follow the guides I gave you. You will stay here until you get into your senses, young lady.

Mother went out and locked the door

I can't believe that she's doing this to me. Why would I listen to her anyway?

I believe in what's right. I do what's best for all. I want to change tradition. I will become a greater queen of hearts. I will become a great ruler of our kingdom. I will show my subjects that I deserve to be their queen.

I'll show them. I'll show her.

I won't sit pretty in times like this. Never.
