The sirens had begun pumping out from speakers, but a little annoying for the sound used to be full of gasps and moans. It was finally that time of year. There was a huge ruckus in the city, everyone ran back to their home, locking their door, windows, everything to keep themselves safe. They were going to stay in their safe homes for 12 hours, precisely 7 P.M. to 7 A.M. This wasn't going to be pretty. This night was invented by the government to keep criminals at peace every night of the year by promising them this one night to do anything they wanted—with absolutely no consequences. When The Purge was invented, the whole world suddenly shifted... With the tantalizing night never more than 365 days away, criminal activity dropped significantly and the world found peace.
Truth was, Kaminari had thought about participating actively in the Purge. He'd thought about killing someone once or twice, but that was not in his nature. For his own safety, Kaminari wouldn't participate, unless it was completely necessary. The alarm rang out, marking the beginning of the Annual Purge.
The blonde stared out the window. Citizens were already going at it. It was a mix of screams and begs from innocent people who weren't aware of the event, the city was tainted in dark crimson blood. Most students in class A-1 were allowed to go back home to visit their families, which Kaminari had chosen to do. A few hours went by, the young male ignored the sounds coming from outside, it was chaos. His eyes widened when the sound of glass shattered. Other than a gunshot there was nothing that caught his attention, his heart was accelerating.
Instinctively, Kaminari ran to hide from the possible murder. Someone literally just broke into his house by smashing the windows on his front porch. On a normal day, he would've called the police, however, on the day of the Annual Purge, any cry for help was useless. The approaching footsteps had the floor creaking and the crackling sound of broken shards of glass.
The blonde didn't even dare to make a single movement that might give out some hints of his whereabouts. The intruder was in the same room as him, checking every corner of it. Kaminari was terrified. There was an eerie aura coming from this stranger who was determined to murder him. It was killing intent. Kaminari had heard of it before, from fantasy books and previous events with villains.
The young male had to get rid of him. Luckily, he was prepared. A pocket knife. Creeping behind the stranger, before the intruder could even turn around. Kaminari stabbed him, twisting his knife around before he pulled it out- just insert it in once again. His lips curled into a smile as his eyes grew wide with excitement.
His hands were wrapped tightly around the cold surface of the metallic knife. He seemed to have no sense of humanity. His heart seemed to be made of stone, the way he had brutally killed the stranger. The evil glint in his beady eyes. Denki had smelt of blood- of danger. Denki heaved as he backed away from the now dead body that has fallen on the floor. His eyes went wide with surprise once he caught a glimpse of the person's face whom he just killed. Mineta Minoru.
The surprise on Kaminari's face lasted a few moments, but then amusement took its place, and he choked back a laugh. But it petered out as his eyes sharpened with scrutiny. Did he care about Mineta's death? No. Kaminari desired more, he felt a surge of excitement and pleasure overtaking him. This time, he wanted to hear people scream and beg for their lives. The blonde-haired male bent down to grab the mask that Mineta was supposedly wearing when he broke into Denki's house.
Kaminari knew that the moment that he set foot outside of his house, he'll officially be joining the annual event. After putting on the mask that consisted of bright neon LED lights, he whispered under his breath with a malicious grin that crept onto his face:
❝ Now, let's go join in the fun, shall we? ❞
