The bombs were new.
Reports came in showing that roughly 85% of the bunker's soldiers had either successfully evaded the Biogen fall-out or had used their syringes in time.
The other 15% were in the infirmary, still alive, but suffering, more severely than anything on record to date. More medical supplies as well as food and water were on route from another base. The Biogen had fatally contaminated everything it had touched.
"I miss when it was only through contact," Micah thought, thinking of the Infected's current and future condition, if they had any future.
Micah had heard nothing about "Oberon" from his last unit when he questioned them. They had started giving him odd looks after some pressing, so he ceased his inquiries. His new unit didn't seem know anything about it either.
And then three days passed.
His unit had finally discovered the well-camouflaged cache of bio-bombs, a mere one kilometer away from their own base. The facility was deserted; there was no sign of the enemy.
They entered the facility, rifles pointed.
They reached a control room, and secured it. The science officer on his team then brought the room online. Micah himself stepped over to a console and began downloading its database to a small storage device he carried.
His team then worked on disabling and destroying the bio-weapons, taking samples here and there.
Hours later, he was back in his bunk on his computer. He took it upon himself to pore through the enemy data he had collected.
On his team's return, he learned that the Infected were not doing well. However, all of them were still alive. Once infected, a person's life expectancy was one day, two at the most. It had been three days, going on four. They were alive, but their symptoms had not stopped growing in severity. After hearing the descriptions of the victims, Micah did not want to go into the infirmary.
He looked back at the data on his screen. On a whim, he searched for the term "Oberon", expecting to find nothing.
A notification appeared on his screen. One match.
He clicked the "Go to" button and watched the lines of texts rapidly scroll and then stop. His laptop highlighted a set of text. It looked like coordinates.
Micah immediately left his bunk and got his best soldier, and they both walked to his CO.
Approved. His CO had been elated for the found cache and willfully granted their short leave of absense.
"Don't take too long though. More of those weapons are out there," his CO reminded them.
They prepared for their journey.
