In the hallway, Addi, Starr, Susannah, Lauren and Lauren walked together. Madison had said that he'd catch up with them later, so they walked to lunch without him.
"Hey, Sus. You remember Made from camp?"
Susannah nodded. "Yeah, major in vocal and minor in visual art?"
"That's the one. Apparently, he goes to our school." Addi glanced over at Oliver, an eyebrow raised.
"No way." Sus looked at Addi.
"Yes way. And he has taken to unloading bucketfuls of his trademarked charm on Starr here."
Starr rolled her eyes. "I don't think that's entirely true-"
Behind them, a slightly amused voice said, "Am I the person in question in possession of bucketfuls of trademarked charm?"
"Speak of the devil." Addi glanced over his shoulder at Madison and said, "By the by," in a mocking tone.
"It's a habit; people said it all the time in Canada," Madison retorted defensively.
"Anyway. I meant to text you and tell you that Starr says that you're either annoyed or entertained by her...how did you say it?"
"Sesquipedalian driveling," Starr finished.
"Amused, actually. It's quite endearing." Madison smiled wider, his teeth bared like the Cheshire cat.
"I'd have texted you in chemistry, but I didn't know how to spell it," Addi said slyly.
Starr hissed vehemently and stepped hard on Addi's foot.
Madison looked mildly surprised.
"Yeah, don't make Starr mad. She'll make cat noises and step on your feet."
They finally arrived at the lunch table they normally sat at and collapsed into their chairs.
