Starr, Addi and Madison sat at Wendy's, each with French fries. Madison swirled his in a vanilla Frosty, eyes cast downward. Starr fiddled with the bandage on her palm restlessly, fries untouched next to an orange soda. Addi squeaked his straw around in the lid of his grape soda, a phantom grin crossing his face periodically when the noise was especially loud.
Eventually Madison looked over at him and said, "You are more immature than I am."
Addi shrugged. "Here's the deal. I ignited your power with mine."
"So you're a superhero," Starr said drolly.
"I honestly thought you'd be more surprised." Addi listed his head with a wry grin.
"Oh, trust me. I'm more excited on the inside."
"Whatever. Not many people know this, you realize."
"It's My Hero plus the CIA." Starr pulled a fry apart and ate half of it."Anime references already," Madison said, his usual grin widening. Starr blushed and poked a fry at her straw. Then she looked up abruptly.
"You have it too." Starr squinted at him. "An ability, I mean."
Madison's smile tilted. "Yes." His eyes glittered.
"Doesn't matter," Addi said, swatting his arm. "Either I activated a power you already had, or gave you some of mine."
"What is. . . How is yours. . .?" Starr gestured blankly at Addi.
Addi glanced to both sides then held out his hand. It caught fire in an instant, blue flames curling around his fingers. "I'm a pyro." The flames went out and he wiggled his fingers at him. "Anyway, we have no way of knowing what your ability is."
Madison looked down at his Frosty. "I could," he said softly.
Addi shook his head. "Her emotions can be strong. If the overpowers you, there's no telling what will happen."
"I wanna know," Starr said defiantly.
Madison stood up and threw the remnants of his Frosty. "Let's find out. Addi's house?"
