Famous actor and stand up comedian Liam Wood has announced his retirement on Twitter due to paralyzation from the waist down. Say's he was hit by a drunk driver, police chief Steve Wonderman released an article that quotes 'we are still after the drunk driver who that night ruined Mr. Wood's and friends life.'
I turned off the t.v. at that time, not wanting to be reminded of how my career is ending.
My phone starts ringing, and I look at the screen in annoyance, not wanting to be bothered by anyone I know, but seeing it was unknown I answer.
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
"Hello, Mr. Wood? This is Amanda Sterling I am from an in-home caregiver business." She states.
"I don't really need a nurse, I like my privacy," I reply.
"I understand, but you might find some things difficult, being paralyzed and all. You don't have to answer yet, but if you change your mind just give us a call, we will bring the best we possibly can."
"I'll think about it," I say, hanging up the phone.
I sit in my wheelchair thinking about that night, the driver, my car, and my friend. How haven't they caught the bastard yet? I was angry just thinking about it.
He ruined my life, not just that but my friend's life.
"Hey Gerald, can you g.." I stopped yelling, suddenly remembering Gerald, my longtime bodyguard and friend, was the other person in my car that night when it flipped.
Now, I'm all alone in a huge house just by myself. The thought of this just made me want to scream, so I did, I screamed then cried. Until I finally fell asleep.
I woke up at 8:03 in the morning according to my phone clock and turned on the news.
"Steve Wonderman, Chief of police released another statement this morning stating they have leads to the drunk driver and are moments away from detaining him."
The best news I heard in a week and no one to share it with.
I went over what I was going to say to Amanda for hours now before finally picking up the phone and going to my recent calls.
"I change my mind on not wanting an in-home nurse. I'm in a huge house by myself, and it's quite lonely." I immediately say once she picked up the phone.
"Right, we will send a nurse your way right away, and can I have your address." Her voice in kind and filled with pity.
"Sure," I said finishing it off with my address.
An hour later I got a knock at my door, my first instinct was to call Gerald again knowing he's dead.
"Coming," I shout, rolling my wheelchair towards the door. To do this I had to roll it around my living room couch which had a door frame leading to the kitchen which then leads to an incline to my front door. My living room does connect to the door as well but in going that way there is a two-step staircase leading to said door.
"Hello," I said answering the door.
"Hi, I'll be your in house nurse, for the time being, my name is Olivia Charles." She replies taking my hand for a handshake.
"Ah, well," I say leading her into my living room down the stairs forgetting I was in a wheelchair, falling in the process. "Make your self at home." I finish, embarrassed as she helps lift me, and help me back up into my wheelchair.
"May I say, I volunteered for this job when I heard who it was I'd be taking care of," she squawked with a moment of silence between "I'm just a huge fan." She continued.
