Me and Jeremy decided to go out for a second date, but this time we chose to do go-kart racing and grab food after.
He talked a lot of junk about beating me up until I won against him twice in a row.
"Were you a racer in your past life," he joked.
"No, I'm just very competitive."
"Yea, I could tell. Let's go get some food for the champ."
I couldn't help but laugh as I waited while he opened my door for me.
We went to a 4.5 star restaurant where he'd made reservations for us. I had never even heard of some of the items, and everything was way more expensive than what I was accustomed to. Even their cheapest glass of wine was $20.
"Do you have a favorite here," I asked casually. It was really just my slick way of finding out if he could afford this place.
"Yea. I always get this one," he said while pointing out a dish to me.
It was $40 and didn't even come with a side. I nodded silently in response. "Yea, it looks delicious." I commented in an effort to not look uncouth.
"Or you could get the surf and turf. They have some of the best steak here."
"That looks really good. I'll go with that one," I responded. It was more expensive, but it was also the most familiar and came with a couple sides.
A server came to the table and introduced herself as Stacy. I caught the vibe that she was silently judging me, but I held my tongue because I didn't want to ruin the date.
Throughout the dinner, though, she kept making it a point to ignore me. Somehow, Jeremy didn't seem to notice.
As we left the restaurant and got back in the car, I started to wonder if it was just me, or if Jeremy just wasn't all that great. Before I could think that for long, though, he started cracking up as he drove me back to Mariel's house again.
"What," I asked.
"That waitress was such a bi--," he stopped himself and gave me a guilty look.
"Sorry, my sister told me I should stop using that word around women. But, did you notice it? The way the waitress was acting like you weren't even there," he asked.
"Yea. It was annoying, to be honest."
"Well, we ran up a $200 check, and I only left her $5 and a note," he said before showing me the picture he took of it on his phone. I cracked up, too and relaxed a little. He was good after all.
"Okay but seriously, I'm so sorry you had to put up with that. If you let me take you out again, I promise everything will be better," he commented seriously.
"Yea, I would be down."
He had a huge smile on his face as he pulled up to Mariel's house. We walked up to the front door and stopped to talk for a few minutes.
"So, when are you free, then," he asked.
"Well, spring break is less than a week away, so I won't have to worry about school. Lemme check when I'm working, though." I pulled out my phone and checked my schedule. "Well, I'm open Monday and Tuesday. I'm working all the other days."
"In that case, you wanna do an all day date on Monday? I know it sounds crazy, but--"
"No, that actually sounds really cool. I've never done that before."
"Dope. We're gonna have a lot of fun. I don't wanna hold you up too long for now, though. You look really tired."
"What are you talking about," I asked. I thought I was hiding my tiredness pretty well.
"Your eyes are practically closed right now, and I saw you trying to hide your yawns all the way here."
"Oh man. My bad."
"It's cool," he said before kissing me on the cheek. "I'll see you on Tuesday, right?"
It made me feel a little giddy, but I definitely hid that well because I had years of practice. "Yea, for sure. I wouldn't miss my first all day date for the world."
