I helped Jeremy into the passenger side of his car and put his crutches in the backseat as we left from the hospital.
We were at one of his skateboarding events earlier and he attempted a new trick. He did something wrong, though and fractured a bone in his left leg. I cried at the sight of him being in pain, so thankfully one of his skating buddies called an ambulance.
"Sorry for crying instead of getting you help earlier," I said quietly.
"Ris, it's okay. It's not your fault that I hurt myself. Plus, I'm gonna be fine."
My stomach growled, and Jeremy gave me a disappointed smile. "You didn't eat, Queen?"
"No. I was rushing this morning."
"Let's go get something to eat, then."
We stopped at a drive-through so Jeremy wouldn't have to get in and out the car so many times.
After that, we headed to the lake to watch the sunset. Jeremy silently began to stare at me, and he seemed unsettled by something.
"What," I asked curiously.
"When am I going to meet your parents?"
I let out a deep breath. I hadn't yet told Jeremy about the fact that my parents wouldn't approve of us dating. Especially because he'd told me a few of the slick comments his mom has made about me, which resulted in me and Jeremy having little arguments a couple times.
"To be honest, you know I've told you that I want you to meet them, but they don't approve of me dating outside of my race," I confessed.
"Yea, but they haven't met me yet."
"Jere, I'm serious."
"I am too. You're thinking so negatively about it."
"It's not negative, it's realistic," I retorted angrily.
"Don't get mad at me, Queen. I'm just saying that your parents are a big part of your life. I just wanna get to know that side of you."
"I hear you. But, you know how your mom always says something slick, but pretends that she's innocent? Well, my parents aren't going to be nearly as nice. I don't want us having yet another thing to argue about."
"Fine."
"Don't be like that, Jeremy."
"Like what?"
"Like getting in a mood. I don't wanna get into it about this right now."
He shrugged his shoulders before eating one of his fries. I let out another deep breath before stepping out of the car.
I walked a few steps away and took in a nice, fresh breath of air. I closed my eyes and soaked up the last bit of warmth the sun was giving off. Why couldn't he just give it some time so I could figure out how to break this news to my parents?
I sat on the ground and tried to think of anything besides what was going on. After a good ten minutes, though, I still felt unsettled. I figured it'd be better to just go home at this point, so I got back in the driver's seat.
The ride was silent except for the radio playing quietly in the background. I pulled up to Jeremy's house and walked toward my own, not even stopping to help him get out.
"Ris?"
"What," I said without turning around.
"Come back."
"For what?"
"Please?"
I rolled my eyes at myself, then went back to him. "What?"
"Can you stay with me tonight? I don't want you to walk home alone while it's getting dark."
I was about to say no, and he knew because he rested a hand on my waist and pulled me closer before giving me puppy dog eyes.
"Please? I know you wanna cuddle up with me. And keep me company since I hurt myself," he teased while kissing me.
I giggled and let out a sigh. "Sure, but since you were rude, I'm not helping you into the house."
He scoffed in disbelief, but I wasn't joking. I stood to the side and watched him make his way to the front door. We headed straight for his room, where he sprawled out across the bed in exhaustion.
He motioned for me to join him, so I took my shoes off and laid on the right side of him.
He turned over to face me and rested his hand on my thigh. "Tell me something," he whispered.
"Yea?"
"What would you say to a little baecation once my leg is healed?"
"Really?"
"Yea. So?"
"Sounds fun. But, when? I need to know when to take off of work."
"As soon as I'm better. That should give you plenty of time, right?"
I nodded in response. He smiled absentmindedly, so I asked him what for.
"I just imagined seeing you walk around in your lingerie while we chill in a hotel room with a view."
I giggled in response and buried my face in his chest because I was getting sleepy.
"Well, you'd have to buy it all. I don't have any," I said before dozing off.
