"BROOK!"
I turned around to see Danielle running towards me.
"What's up girl? You seem jumpy." I told her as we hugged each other.
"Brett asked me out!" She said, bouncing her auburn hair.
"Yay that's so cool." My tone was monotonous and it might've been annoying, but I didn't care.
"Damn girl. Sarcasm in monotone? Something's wrong. Let me guess, fight with your parents again?" She said as we walked together towards Lincoln High School.
"Yes and it's getting annoying day by day. This morning, I asked my mom to sign the slip regarding our field trip and guess what my dad said. 'I'm sure you want to hook up with more guys. That's why you wanna go' I swear this makes me wanna kill them someday. "
"Why don't you try again later when they are in a better mood?" She asked.
"I don't know, Dan. All these years, I've been dealing with the same bullshit. It's not even fair anymore. I can't wait for my graduation day. When I'll finally say goodbye to them and never see them again." I spat out everything I had said. I was meaning every word.
Dan paused for a second before replying quietly, "At least you have your parents."
"Dan, I'm so sorry! I didn't-" I started but she cut me off.
"Silly! Why are you sorry? Don't be." She turned to face me with a smile.
Danielle didn't have any parent. Her mom died giving birth to her and her father ran away with another woman when she was six. She lives with her older sister and grandparents.
I tried to divert her attention by changing the topic. "So Brett finally asked you out?"
Her eyes sparkled as I said that. "Yes! Can you believe it? Talk about your crush liking you back."
I let out a chuckle, "So where's he taking you?" I asked, while looking at her.
"I asked him! But he said it was gonna be a surprise." She said.
I laughed at that. I knew how much she couldn't stand with suspense. Surprises were one thing, those didn't disturb her, but the place Brett was taking her to would have to be categorised under 'Suspense'.
"I'm sure he's taking someplace nice." I smiled.
"I ho- Hey, watch out!" She grabbed me by my arm and hurriedly, pulled me towards her. A boy, who was riding a bike twice his size, almost ran into us.
"Where in the world is your mind?" I shouted at him.
Now, usually, normally, when a person is being shouted at, especially because of some stupidity that he did, he would stop and turn around. He may or may not apologise. But this person here was clearly abnormal, as he just continued to ride without even looking back.
"Are you deaf?!" Danielle screamed.
"What a jerk." I said.
"I know right!"
"Let's forget about it. Look at the watch. It's almost 8. We're gonna be late for school."
"No. You're gonna be late." She said, as she ran past me.
"Oh yeah?" I countered.
We then raced to the school, which geographically, wasn't too far away.
Where in the world is Sparrow McWood today?
She's here at her home, smiling weirdly at her phone as she types this and copies the intro of Lilly Singh.
I had to take a break from this book because there were a lot of books which I was writing at the moment and my dear friend, writer's block, payed me a visit.
But I'm back now. I hope to update regularly😊
