CHAPTER EIGHT
FEBRUARY, 7TH FRIDAY

BRANDON HYNES

● ● ●

I didn't understand it. How did we go from being friends on Wednesday to not talking at all? I wondered what I did to upset him because I knew there was something bothering him. Maybe it wasn't me but maybe it was. I believed it was because he still didn't text me.

I felt like I was checking my phone every second of every day just to see if he texted me.

Why didn't he text me? I wondered.

I decided I was just going to ask him, but I had to be subtle. I didn't wanna come off as crazy and I didn't want him to think I was tripping off of something so trivial as texting.

I didn't have any classes Friday but I knew that Tobias was going to be in the library so I went to school just to see him. He had a class at noon, and he usually came into the library around two something. The only reason why I knew he had a class Friday was because of Zach. Their classes were in the same hall and they both went to class around the same time.

So I waited in the library for two hours until Tobias finally came. I wanted to bolt towards him but I didn't want to scare him so I waited for him to sit down. He looked exhausted.

Once he sat down, he looked in my direction and smiled so I smiled. Then he pulled out his phone and turned it sideways. He was probably watching something. Maybe that was a sign to not bother him. I was sure he was busy and had other things in mind instead of talking to me.

But I didn't care. I wanted to talk to him, and I needed to find out why he took forever to text me back so I got up and made my way towards him.

"Hey," I said. He looked up from his phone and smiled. His dimples were so cute, and I loved his freckled nose. I just wanted to kiss it. "Can I join you?" I asked. My fingers were holding the seat that sat in front of him.

"Ye-" his voice was breaking. He cleared his throat. "Yeah. Sure."

"Cool." I couldn't even hide my happiness. I was smiling like a damn fool.

Tobias probably didn't notice. His attention was too focused on his phone. I thought he was watching a video at first but by the way his hands were holding both sides of his phone and the ringing and dinging noises that came from it. I had concluded he was playing a game.

"What game are you playing?" I asked.

"Brawl Stars."

"Can I watch?"

"Sure."

"Cool."

I got up from my side of the table and sat next to him. I tried watching him play but I was having a hard time seeing so I scooted my chair closer to his.

The game he was playing had a bunch of cartoon-like characters and each one of them had their own ability. Some had weapons and others just fought with their hands.

"Which one are you?" I asked.

"I'm Rosa. The girl with the spikey boxing gloves and the purple hair."

I saw her. "I see." I also noticed that his character had five gems over her head. "So the objective is to get gems?"

I wanted him to tell me more about the game, to start some kind of conversation but he didn't.

All he said was, "Yeah."

I decided to just keep my mouth shut and enjoy the fact that I was sitting so close to him. He smelled really nice. It was a sweet smell. He smelled like candy. I never met a boy who smelled like that before. Carlos smelled good, but he always smelled like expensive cologne. It was like a cedarwood and vanilla scent with a hint of a flower. It was sexy.
