The day has finally come for them to rejoice. Chris, Steven and Elizabeth all prepare for their trip down to the beach. They are all neighbors and their parents thought it would be a good idea to let them go out and have some fun together, so they are carpooling in one car.
Adult: "Hey kids hurry up the car is ready."
Chris:"Be right there!"
Chris is now scurrying to get his stuff together as he is really excited right now to show everyone what he can do on the beach. He grabs a coloring book on the way out of the door so he has an activity to do on the car ride. Steven is just going through the motions without much thought, no real pleasure or excitement in going to the beach as his parents push him out the door. While Elizabeth is on the fence of things and isn't sure what to make of the experience but also is looking forward to spending time on the beach with her friends.
Off they go to the beach in the car, Elizabeth is discomforted as she was told to sit in the middle. Steven is to the left staring out the window while Chris is to the right coloring in his coloring book.
Chris:"Hey look at what I just did isn't it fantastic?"
Chris exaggerates himself and jumps about the car as hes so eager to share what he has done with everyone around him. Elizabeth, rolling her eyes slightly.
"That is wonderful chris."
Chris: "Steven, don't you see it? Don't you see it?"
Steven:"I'm not interested in you right now I would rather be left alone."
As Steven continues to count the lines on the road he can see outside his window. He is still not so infatuated with the idea of going to the beach. Chris's overall attitude towards his coloring book is shot now. Not getting the appreciation he wanted he throws it on the car floor and pouts.
Adult: "Ok, we are here now everyone get ready to have a good time now and play nice."
Chris jumps out of the vehicle and darts to the sand, looking for a perfect spot. He figures the coloring book might not be impressive enough but he will surely dazzle them with a great sand castle. Elizabeth follows Chris as he was more warm and welcoming than Steven was. Steven drags his body with shoulders drooping to the sand in his own location by himself. He sees people around him building sand castles and decides to try it himself.
Chris:"Elizabeth lets build a grand castle together!"
Elizabeth:"Ok, that sounds like fun."
Grabbing a shovel and bucket each one selects. Chris takes the bucket and begins dumping and piling sand, while Elizabeth takes the shovel and begins working on the moat.
After some hard work; sand, water and a digging shovel. They managed to build a pile of sand, with a moat around it. Standing fairly tall and a stick pointing out the top. Chris isn't happy yet, he wants to venture further and have more fun, so now he grabs some sand and mixes it with water. Getting a nice clump of sand he chunks it over at Steven's feet to get his attention.
Looking at the sand, Steven has nothing to say. He just continues to build on his castle alone wishing someone would spend time with him. Feeling lonely he is just wanting to connect with others. The longer he ignores Chris' actions the more Chris starts to do them. Chris does not seem to notice that Steven does not care for his idea of playing.
Elizabeth: "Chris just let him be already."
Chris:"No way, hes gonna have fun with us that's why we are all here."
Elizabeth:"He will join us on his own."
Chris:"Some people just need a push. HEY STEVEN"
Steven:"Hey guys I would just like to be left alone."
