The First Day of School

Entering the vehicle in the same way as before Elizabeth is still pretty annoyed.  She would like the privaledge to lean on a window instead of always having to keep herself from touching the boys.  Steven returns to counting the lines on the street, while Chris is tuckered out of energy and just colors in his coloring book for the rest of the ride home.

A big day has come for the three of them as they prepare for their first day of elementary school.  All three of them get on the bus and one thing you notice is it is segregated by gender.  In the back are the boys while the front has all the girls.  The only thing out of place is Steven as he sits in the front seat to himself in the girl section keeping quiet.

The odd thing is even though they had a good time at the beach, they don't however sit next to each other on the bus.  They don't even really talk at the bus stop or recognize each other.  There is this awkwardness between them when in large groups.  At least for Chris and Steven, Elizabeth is the social butterfly and goes to her other friends to talk while steven  shallows in the background.  Chris  tries to join in the conversations going on but quickly realizes he just doesn't understand how to join in big groups.

The bus has arrived at their school.  As they get off Steven accidently drops his backpack on the ground.  A girl from behind him shoved him out of the way muttering

"Dweeb"

Stumbling to the ground he falls face forward to the ground for a brief moment.  Elizabeth picks up his backpack and hands it to him.

Chris: "thank you Elizabeth"

Elizabeth: "don't mind her Steven she's just mean"

Elizabeth helps Steven off the ground and they head to class.
