Prompt: You hear your soulmate's thoughts.
--
Dante tried to ignore the voice in his head. He lied about it too. He heard all the stories--all the love stories--of people finding the person that was perfect for them that shared the same voice as the one in their head.
Dante thought it was hilarious. Especially as a kid, when he heard nothing at all and people kept telling him that he should be hearing something worth mentioning. It made him think he was weird, and so when the voice finally did begin to form coherent thoughts he ignored it.
Especially back in highschool. Irene, that was the absolute worst. When Dante was out with some girl he did not want to hear his annoying voice tediously reciting every single element in the periodic table in attempts to study.
And that was another thing. His voice was male. It was a guy in his head, which made Dante think this whole "soulmate in your head" thing was that much more insane. In fact, he had convinced himself that he didn't like guys. This whole voice was just stupid, and selfish for not being there when he needed it to be. And it was a total nerd.
And besides, Dante didn't want to meet his voice.
So... he would live the rest of his life that way, and that was fine. That would be fine for him.
--
Vylad's voice was positively frightening. They seemed so different from one another. His voice was super interested in girls and getting into trouble. And that only made Vylad want to study and do good in school more.
He wasn't afraid to tell his family that it was a guy's voice. He just wanted to figure out who it was. They were soulmates, after all, and even though they were so different, maybe it would work out?
Vylad tried for awhile to figure out who his soulmate was. He was eager to find him for a while. But it was difficult: all the names were replaced with something ambiguous, as if the "soulmate gods" only wanted for him to suffer. Every time his soulmate would think of someone, it would be replaced with "friend" or "brother" or "hot girl."
So Vylad's schooling was deemed important. And then he traveled the world, trying to push his soulmate's thoughts out of his head while he worked, but that was impossible. And it became even more impossible to ignore when Garroth would text Vylad about his day, and they would coalign exactly with what his soulmate was doing.
He thought it was a coincidence in highschool that his soulmate seemed to be doing whatever his brother was, but now it was bone chilling.
How would you feel if your soulmate was only just a few blocks down from where you lived your whole life? The next time Vylad was in town, he'd have to figure out who it was. He had to.

"Oh, your little brother's home? What's his name, Vylad?" Dante asked, trailing Garroth inside of his parents' house. "I haven't seen him since highschool. I don't think I've even held a conversation with him." Garroth gave him a curious look over his shoulder.
"What do you mean? He was always home in highschool, you didn't run into him once?" Garroth asked, as the two boys threw themselves to the couch. Laurence was going to join them shortly, like old times. Travis was going to be there in the next hour.
