Clint's POV

To say I was pissed would be an understatement, not three hours after my neighbors, my best friends were murdered, Fury wanted to see me. Agents frantically moved out of my way as I stormed through the halls of the base, steam practically pouring from my ears. Finally arriving at his office, I burst in and glared at the man in the chair who returned my look with a blank stare.

"Do you want to explain to me what the hell just happened and why there are good people dead in their home right now!?" I was shouting, I knew that much and I also knew that I didn't give a damn because there was currently an eight-year-old crying in Laura's arms and two little girls that I could not find.

"Take a seat," was Fury's only response and it left no room for argument so I angrily dropped into the chair in front of his desk. "I didn't order the hit on Tom and Elizabeth but I allowed it because it wouldn't be long before they figured out who you were and your new family would be in jeopardy."

"Did you or the Senator think about the fact that they've been my best friends for years or think of how it would affect their family," I seethed out, the senator was the only one who could tell Fury what to do. Fury merely raises an eyebrow.

"What are you talking about Barton," he asked slightly exasperated and my mind froze in its steps, "what family would their deaths have to affect. They have no siblings, no parents, no cousins, nothing."

I opened my mouth and closed it a few times before settling on a few words, "You didn't know, did you?"

"Know what?" He was clearly getting irritated, he doesn't like it when he doesn't know things, it's not often that he doesn't know something.

I glared at the ground beneath my feet and uttered out in soft words, "They had three kids, Director, one of them is crying into Laura's arms in our living room and the other two are missing." I looked back up to Fury who looked irritated, angry almost, "I know people will do anything to get their hands on these kids, they're smart𑁋smarter than they should be for their age."

"You knew about these kids and didn't think it was important to tell me about them?" Fury's face was back to neutral, but I know he could snap at any moment, every agent has their breaking point and he just found out one of his informants have been lying to him. "What if they get a hold of a Terrigen Crystal?"

"No I didn't think it was important to tell you about them," I said sarcastically earning a glare, "Jesus, they're four, six and eight. I've known these kids for their whole lives, they're great kids, but if they know their parents are dead they'll do something stupid. Do you know how rare Terrigen Crystals are? None of them are even interested in having abilities, they all think it's enough to just be smarter, faster, and stronger than everyone else."

"You really care about these kids don't you?" I met his eyes briefly before nodding my head and looking away, "Is that going to be a problem, Agent?"

"No sir," I say, allowing myself to slip in the respectful top agent that I was, but by doing so sent a pang through my heart when I remembered Tommy reminding his youngest daughter over and over again to say "sir" and "ma'am". I focused back on Fury and handed him the two files I had in a vice grip, "These are the files I put together for them in case they didn't turn up." He briefly glanced through them and tucked them in a drawer in his desk, but I knew they wouldn't stay there for long. I don't usually ask for much so when I do Fury tries to get it done for me, like when he agreed to keep Laura off of my file.

"Good," Fury said, and his eyes softened in only a way that I could detect, "now go home and look after that kid, I'll let you know if we find anything on the girls."
