"Shit" Nell whispered. She sat hunched over her OPS chair. She was alone. Staring at a life changing piece of plastic. How could a piece of plastic be so life changing. Nell was about to find out. "Shit" she whispered again.
"Hey Rockstar whats bothering you" Eric asked walking in not really looking at her.
"Nothing and don't call me Rockstar" Nell snapped, shoving the piece of plastic in her bag. This is not like Nell Eric thought looking at her. She was a puzzle one he just couldn't put together and he was the puzzle master. If anyone could it was him.
"Now I know your not fine Nell, you love it when I call you rockstar" Eric said. He stepped closer causiously. Eric had never seen Nell this angry and he wasn't going to start now. "Nellster, tell me whats wrong" Nell looked worried now not angry. Eric sat down next to her putting his hand on her shoulder reassuringly.
Nell gatherd all the courage she had left and just went for it.
"Eric, I'm pregnant" he stood up mouth in a comical O position pacing the room. he wanted to kill the son of a bitch who made his partner so upset and ruined her chances if being trained in the field for a while.
"How did this happen" he asked still pacing his glasses in his hands.
"Do you remember when we went to that bar and got really drunk" Eric knew what was coming next. He remembered very well what had happened. A whole lot of drinking and some disastrous flirting later. Him and Nell had ended up in bed together. They had only just got back to normal and now she was bringing it back up.
"Well Eric it's kinda yours" she said nervously looking down at her stomach. She burst into tears, wiping her eyes on her cardigan. Eric pulled her up and brought her into a tight hug.
"Nell everything is going to be ok, I will support you. I promise whatever happens. I will be there for you" That only made Nell cry harder. Making little pools of salty tears on Eric's favourite shirt. "Hey Nellster stop crying, your strong, your brave and your kind. There is no need to cry" Eric lifted her head to look at him. "No tell me Unonuctium why are you crying"
"Because I don't deserve it, I don't deserve you" she looked down at her shoes. Nell hadn't really meant to say that last bit, it kinda slipped out.
"Nell don't ever say that, you deserve me as much as I deserve you. and I think we both deserve this little one" Eric tentatively put his hand on her stomach. " With everything that goes on with work we deserve a little happiness. Should we tell Hetty"
"I guess we have to, she probably already knows but she would probably like to hear it from us" she wiped her eyes profusely before walking slowly down OPS Eric behind her.
Eric just kept thinking about what this meant. Was Nell his girlfriend now. He would have to ask her later.
Hetty looked up from her jasmine tea and smiled at them. Instead of being comforting it gave Nell and Eric an uneasy feeling. " I have been waiting for you two to come down all day" they just stared at Hetty. Not knowing where to begin. "Well go on then spit it out"
"Nell's\I'm pregnant" they said together blurting out the elephant in the room.
"Ah I see" Hetty said calmly siping her tea, which was a pale pink colour. "Well this means that you Ms Jones will not be doing field work for a while" Nell nodded. Then turned to Eric. "I assume you are the father" Eric nodded looking at his shoes. " I always suspected something might happen, you two have always had a certain chemistry" Hetty went back to drinking her tea and her very obvious people watching. "Well don't just stand their get back to work"she said not even looking up.
Eric steps back to OPS his head held high. He had only just come to terms with what this meant. He was gonna be a Dad.
