Steven couldn't take it anymore; he'd had enough of the gems shoving their heads into his life. He grabbed his pink jacket and keys from the rack and ran out to his car. He opened the Dondai's door and hopped in, slamming the keys into the ignition.
The gems were already concerned about the ordeal with the van crash. If they found out about any more of his problems... especially Jasper, then he'd be the one picking up the pieces afterward. Gritting his teeth in frustration, he turned the keys, and the engine roared to life. The car sped down the beach and onto the road heading out of Beach City.
A picture hung in the sun visor of his caretakers Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. His eyes kept floating back to it until he eventually grabbed it and shoved it deep into the glovebox, wrinkling the family photo in the process. He flinched, realizing what he had just done. His thoughts filled with regret, the gems would once again be disappointed in him.
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He just couldn't think about them for the time being. He already felt repressed shame and anger. His head was a chasm, devoid of sense.
Steven didn't even know who he was running from anymore. The gems? Himself? Mom? He shivered at the last thought.
Now they were going to be really worried. They knew something was up, and him leaving would only amplify it. He fought back fierce emotions threatening to overwhelm him as he tried to compose himself. He quickly wiped his teary eyes with the back of his hand. His hands tightened on the steering wheel, pink illuminating the car in a soft glow. He ignored the soft hum coming from his gem and pressed down on the acceleration harder than before.
The world was beginning to meld together in light. Butterflies swarming the road in front of him. Events of what had occurred flashed before him like a photo reel. Him accidentally crashing the van out of unhealthy anger; Jasper pushing him to his limit leading to her demise, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, desperate for answers from him, which only intensified his feelings. Tears flowed from his eyes, clouding his vision even more.
A loud horn interrupted his whirling thoughts. A huge semi-truck appeared through the butterflies.
"Ahh!" Steven swerved to the right, the Dondai screeching with him. He felt a sudden thud as the tires went into the grass. The car bounced with energy, and it eventually skidded to a stop in a steep ditch.
Steven was heaving for air, in a panic about how he hallucinated while driving and almost got himself killed. He grabbed his keys and stumbled out of the car, and he nearly forgot to lock the doors in his disoriented state. Stars twinkled overhead as he stared at his situation in dismay. He didn't trust himself anymore to drive away from Beach City.
'Not that I could,' he thought. His attention turned back to his car. It was a little scuffed up from the fall into the ditch. There was no way he could bring it out, even using his inhuman strength.
He thought about getting help, but he decided against it. Hadn't he been enough of a burden already? He looked down at his hands, checking his palms and turning them over to glance at his knuckles. They hadn't returned back to their original color. He shook his head in frustration and huffed loudly.
In a hurry, he left his car and rushed in defeat on a pathway in the woods near the road. He gazed at his hands — they were still pink. His glowing body was an obvious beacon for others to find him. He kicked the ground in front of him out of spite, the dust from the dirt creating a hazy swirl along the ground. He stared at his car for a few moments.
"I have to get out of here before the gems find me." He groaned, noticing his voice was quiet and broken. He took one last regretful look at the Dondai before he began to walk away from the crash site. His pace quickening before breaking into a full-on sprint away from the scene.
With his speed boosted by his powers, he zoomed right past the trees in a blur of pink. He was going inhumanly fast, twigs crunching as he traversed. The wind tousled the hybrid's hair, he sped stone-faced to somewhere isolated where he wouldn't be a burden to anyone but himself.
A loud roar echoed in the distance, and the teen immediately recognized it as a train. He pushed on, increasing his strides as the woods opened up. Fields of sunflowers greeted him and he sidestepped onto the road, avoiding crushing them.
Finally, he got to the railroad tracks, and the train rolled to a stop, signaling for him to board. He gazed up at the glowing neon-green sign.
"Keystone?" He read a little disappointedly. He'd had a better location in mind.
"Maybe I can wait for the next train." He muttered, winded from running such a long distance.
"Steven! Where are you? Come back please!" Several voices echoed nearby, coming from the woods.
"You know what? I'll just go on this one," he laughed nervously, grabbing onto the guide rail.
Steven knew something was off the moment he placed his foot onto the stairs. He could have sworn he saw a pinprick of bright light deep beyond the doorway.
A moment later, the point began to grow.
"Gahhhhhh!" He screamed fearfully, shielding his eyes. The piercing light blinded him before he was knocked unconscious.
Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed the prologue, this was written a year ago with my friends and I haven't added on much since. I figured y'all would want to see my idea of a crossover regardless of it not likely going to be updated since there seems to be a lack of Infinity Train x Steven Universe fics out there.
