"It's time to go to bed, my little sparkle..."
A young girl of about 5 sat in her room with her great-grandmother, who she called Gram, though her name was actually Celeste. It was late, and woman was watching over the little girl while her daughter and granddaughter went out for the night. "But Gram, I want you to tell me more about witches..." The girl said, crawling into Celeste's lap.
The woman nodded and smiled at the young girl, picking up a plain black book that was on the nightstand. The young girl peeked at the book, quickly noticing that she couldn't read it well, even though she was at an age where she could read basic words.
"Gram, I can't read this..." She said, looking at Celeste. The old woman smiled. "Oh, I know, darling. Don't worry, you might figure it out in a few years." The girl shrugged and focused the attention on the book.
"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful kingdom. The castle was wonderful, and the people in the town were really friendly and special. The reason why was because they could use magic!" The young girl gasped softly. "Yeah, just like witches!" Celeste laughed at her great-granddaughter, knowing that she's been hearing this story since she was about 3. "Yes, just like witches! But their magic was very basic."
"The royal family, however, was able to use elemental magic! It basically means that they could make and control things like fire or water-" Celeste jumped a bit as the young girl wiggled out of her lap and started to jump around the room, pushing her arms out. "I've always wanted to be a witch! Wouldn't it be cool, Gram?" She said, smiling and revealing a missing front tooth.
Celeste laughed and stood up, gently grabbing the child's hand and leading her to her bed. "Yes, it would! Now, it's getting late, and you need to go to bed..." The girl pouted, but got in bed without a struggle. "Aw... Goodnight, Gram..." She closed her eyes as Celeste leaned in to kiss her forehead.
"Goodnight, Elise..."

"Bye!"
"Bye! I'll see you Monday!" Elise Collins waved to her friend. School had just ended for the week, and she was more than ready to go home and relax. A breeze flew by as Elise hugged her jacket closer to her body, trying to keep the heat from her body inside of it.
The cold wind wasn't helping much as it kept going through the bottom part of her jacket.
Elise shivered as she took out her key, unlocking the door and opening it to get inside of her warm house. She sighed, taking off her shoes at the door since she didn't want to track mud into the house. The last time she did that, her mom got so mad...
The girl ran her fingers through her hair as she walked to her room and opened her door, finding something on her bed that immediately caught her eye. "A book?" She said out loud, walking over to it.
It was dark blue, almost black, with vine-like designs running across the front of the book. Slightly above the center of the book, there was a dull blue circle. Around the circle were designs similar to the ones on the edges of the book.
There was a long string attached to the curved parts of the design below the circle, leading to the edge of the cover of the book. Attached to the string were five crystals.
"It's gorgeous..." She whispered, running a finger along the intricate designs.
Elise picked the book up and turned it around in her hands, noticing that the back was the same. Minus the circle and the crystals. She had never seen a book like this before. It looked like something that would be in a magical girl anime.
Though, she couldn't help but notice that it looked pretty familiar. She's definitely seen it somewhere before.
Elise ignored the thought and shrugged her shoulders, and opening the book. "What? I can't read this!" She said, squinting as if that was going to help her read better. "Who decided to give me a book I couldn't even read?!" She sighed and flipped through the book, finding nothing that caught her interest.
Until a piece of paper fell out of the book.
"Oh no, please tell me I didn't already break it..." She whispered, picking up the piece of paper. She grinned once she realized that she could actually read it. "Let's see..." She cleared her throat, tucking a stray piece of hair that had fallen in front of her face behind her ear.
"A spell was cast unknowingly by someone, they didn't realize what happened until it was done. Transport them into a new world, that's what the book did. Ready, they are not, for what was originally forbid. This person is unstable, for they don't know where they are. They are wishing dearly for what has become too far. But I believe in that person, and I believe that they can mend, someone that could easily become both their enemy and their friend."
Elise finished reading the paper, feeling a bit confused. What did all of that mean? She shrugged and opened the book, putting the paper back. All of a sudden, she felt the book heating up, as well as heat going into her left arm, which was holding the book open. She closed it and saw that the circle had lit up. The crystals were also lighting up one by one.
The circle started to glow, and strange symbols quickly moved across it. The symbols seemed to be the same ones that were in the book.
Elise opened her mouth, but she was unable to scream. It was like someone had taken her voice straight from her body before she could do anything. The room slowly got brighter and brighter until all she could see was a gold light. All she could feel was the pulsing of a comforting yet terrifying energy through her body.
And then, everything was black.
