"Hunny it's time to get up and get ready for school." Mom sighed as she started to walk towards the closet to pick out my outfit for my first day.
Opening my eyes it was bright in my room making me squint as my eyes adjust to see. When my eyes turn normal I see mom walking out of my room to go do things. I look over to see a dress that had a white background and pink roses on it to match.
I get up and start doing daily things everyone does in the morning like brushing teeth and getting dressed, etc. After getting ready I let my mom do my hair in a simple neat bun.
Eventually, I start getting my school things and set off to leave.
I start walking to my bus stop and see Gabby waiting for me.
"Hey, Gabby!" I yell as I start running.
"Hey," Gabby says and starts to look somewhere else.
By the facial expressions, Gabby looked sad as if something happened to her.
"What's wrong?" I ask confused.
"I'm nervous for the first do school, that's all," Gabby replied.
I didn't want to question further for the fear I'll make her feel worse. Just by looking at her expression she looked pale. The bus arrives around five minutes after I got there and we choose to sit in the middle.
At school, I noticed this year was going to be different. There weren't a lot of other kids I knew and I noticed Gabby looked more nervous than she was earlier. Sweat was dripping down her cheeks and her bottom lip was moving like she was saying something I couldn't understand.
"Hey, Gabs, are you okay?" I question.
"Why wouldn't I?" Gabby faced me.
Gabby smiled but I knew it was fake and then I knew something was going on. It was worse than usual, meaning maybe her mom did something that made her feel bad about herself. Seeing Gabby like this reminds me of the time we went to her house and never went back there again.
"Are you girls done with your plates?" Mrs.Sanchez asked.
"Yes ma'am," I replied.
"Wow, you have better manners than my own daughter." She turned taking me and Gabby's plate.
"Hey!" Gabby fought back.
"Just saying the truth." Her mom shrugged.
"Hey, Lila would you mind going to the other room, thanks." Her mom said she was about to get angry.
I walk to the other room but keep my eye open in case something happened, and something did.
SLAP*
"I can't believe you disrespect me in front of your friend!" Mrs. Sanchez raises her voice.
Gabby starts to sob and runs away.
"W- wait I didn't mean to." Mrs. Sanchez tries to tell Gabby.
Then Gabby's mom looks over to where I was standing and looks surprised.
"T-that was just a-an accident, I didn't m-mean t-to!" She explains.
"Oh, really," I tell her.
I rush away and go to look for Gabby. I hear sobs coming from the closet in the hallway. I open the door and see a swollen cheek. Dang, she must've hit her pretty hard.
"Hey, it's okay," I take her hand, "let's go to my house."
