Ruth pointed her wand at Casper and casted the spell the DA were working on. It was the final meeting before the Christmas break, so they were working on something pretty simple. She smiled smugly as Casper's entire body stiffened and he fell to the floor.
"Ok. You can stun me know," Ruth said as Casper pushed himself off the ground after a few moments. The boy smiled and shot the stunning spell at Ruth. The spell was strong enough to stun her, but she stayed on her feet and unfroze a second later.
"How are your spells so powerful?" Casper asked with a groan. "We're doing the same thing, but you're somehow better."
Ruth chuckled at Casper's exasperation. "I honestly have no idea," she told him, stunning him again.
While Casper's body lay on the ground, regaining mobility slowly, Ruth took a look around the room. Dumbledore's Army was improving with every lesson; people were getting braver as their spells got stronger.
Ruth found Fred and George, who were shooting spells lazily at each other. It had been over two weeks since Harry and the twins received a lifetime ban from playing quidditch and by the look on Fred's face, Ruth could tell he was still upset about it.
When Fred had muttered to Ruth what Umbridge had decided, the smallest Ash triplet was extremely confused. It wasn't fair. Draco Malfoy provoked Harry and George, he shouldn't have expected anything less than a beating. And Fred didn't even do anything, so why should he be banned from playing his favourite game?
Once the meeting ended, Ruth decided to approach Fred while he was helping to clean up the cushions used.
"Hey," Ruth greeted with a smile. "How are you?"
Fred smiled because Ruth was smiling. "I'm fine," he replied, throwing the last of the pillows into the box. "Hey, do you want to go for a walk?"
Ruth bit the inside of her cheek. Curfew was approaching and Ruth didn't want to get caught by Umbridge again. But she couldn't resist agreeing to the hopeful look on Fred's face.
"Ok," Ruth said. "Only if we don't get caught by Umbridge again."
Fred chuckled. "We can only try."
Before they left the Room of Requirement, Ruth turned to give Casper a quick wave. She didn't know if Casper saw her, since he didn't wave back.
As they broke away from the crowd heading back to their common rooms, Ruth and Fred had the common sense to stay quiet, since they had no idea if any of Umbridge's followers were stalking the halls.
They began their usual cheeky conversation as the began to climb the stairs of the Astronomy Tower, knowing that the chances of someone finding them now were extremely slim.
