Valentine's Day at Hogwarts was always a big occasion. Pink and red decorations hung around the castle with hearts and white doves hanging everywhere the students looked.

Ruth sat with Casper for breakfast, as usual. Looking around, Ruth noticed the couples of Hogwarts sitting very close; she even noticed some pairings that she didn't know existed. She hadn't seen Fred yet.

"What do you want to do today?" Casper asked as he dug into his heart-shaped pancakes.

Ruth noticed Fred entering the hall with his brother and Lee Jordan. He mustn't of seen her looking, since he sat down without casting her a single glance.

"It's a Hogsmede weekend," Ruth shrugged. "So I guess we'll just go to Hogsmede."

Casper followed Ruth's eyes, his brown ones landing on the red-headed twins. "Your boyfriend didn't plan anything for today?"

His tone of voice made Ruth almost embarrassed to shake her head. "No. He didn't."

Casper raised his eyebrows. "Does he realise it's Valentine's Day?"

The glare Ruth sent him made Casper's mouth shut. She sighed and looked over at Fred again, who was laughing as he scooped some pancake into his mouth.

The two friends stayed silent from a few moments, their eyes focused on the same person. Casper soon sighed and stood up. "Come on."

Ruth gave a look of confusion as Casper grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet. "What?"

Casper only grinned as he lead her out of the hall by her hand. They left the castle in a hurry, Ruth squealing at the fast pace Casper was moving at.

"Let's go to Honeydukes," Casper suggested cheerfully.

"It's 10am," Ruth reasoned but only received a smug smile in return. "Ok. But only if you buy me some liquorice."

"There's a million things I'd rather spend my money on," Casper drawled on as they approached the village. "But I suppose I'll do it for you."

They entered Honeydukes, which was relatively empty since it was quite early in the day. Because of the lack of customers, Ruth and Casper had first dips on the free samples. They had great fun trying all the different sweets. Ruth even managed to convince Casper to try some black liquorice, and nearly collapsed with laughter at the disgusted face he made.
