Nini's POV

I was sitting inside one rainy Saturday afternoon and watching a movie by myself. I had a cup of tea and I was in my sweats and it was very cozy and relaxing. I was watching Tangled, which was one of my favorite movies to watch.

Suddenly, I heard one of my moms yell, "NINI, CAN YOU COME DOWN HERE?"

There was a sense of urgency in her voice so I hurried downstairs. When I stepped into the kitchen I saw Ricky standing at the counter, completely soaking wet.

"Hi Nini," he rasped.

"Oh my god, Ricky," I gasped. "What happened? Why are you soaked?"

Ricky cleared his throat. "My...my mom and dad were fighting and I couldn't take it. I was just so upset I stormed out and I didn't grab my keys and I just started walking and now I'm here."

"We have to get you into some dry clothes," I said.

Ricky's breath caught and he pitched forward with a wet sneeze into his elbow. He sniffled thickly. "Sorry, I'm kind of coming down with something too and I don't think the walk in the rain really helped."

I pulled Ricky close to me and felt his forehead. "You're so hot, Ricky," I said.

"Am I?" Ricky smirked stupidly. "I don't feel well."

"I'm gonna grab some of your clothes that I have from my room and then you can change and we'll get you settled here, okay?" I explained. Ricky nodded. I did what I told him I was going to do. He had given me some of his sweatpants and t-shirts so I just picked out a pair of clothes and brought it down.

When I walked back into the kitchen, Ricky was shivering. My mom was making him some tea, though. I handed Ricky the clothes and he walked off to the nearest bathroom.

"Poor kid, huh?" Mom said. "He's not chatty like he normally would be, and I bet he's absolutely freezing."

We talked for a moment before Ricky walked back out in his dry clothes. His hair was still a little wet but he looked much better.

"You two go down to the basement and I'll bring the tea when it's done," Mom said.

I took Ricky's hand and walked downstairs. Ricky and I sat down on one of the couches in my basement and I felt his forehead again.

"How'd you get so sick so fast, rockstar?" I asked.

Ricky shrugged, coughing into his elbow. "I don't know. I don't think the rain helped," he laughed tiredly.

His eyes were bleary and his nose was pink and his skin was pale and sweaty. I couldn't imagine how uncomfortable he felt. It almost angered me that Ricky felt like he couldn't be in his house which should be his safe place when he was feeling this ill.

"Come here," I said, holding out my open arms.

Ricky's breath hitched and he put his finger up, signaling for me to wait a second. He sneezed twice into his elbow and once he looked back up he looked like he was in a daze.

"Bless you," I offered. "I'm gonna go check the bathroom for some tissues."

"Wait! Um, can I have a hug first?" Ricky asked shyly.

My heart melted. I pulled Ricky into a tight hug. While I was holding onto him, he ducked down towards my shoulder and sneezed. He immediately pulled away.

"I'm so sorry, Nini, I didn't mean to-"

I laughed, "Ricky, it's okay. Don't worry about it, really. You're not feeling well, it's okay, I promise."

I could still see some uncertainty in his eyes. I kissed him on the cheek and stood up to find some tissues. When I came back, Ricky was coughing.

He had sounded alright the day before. He was a bit congested and I thought I remembered him coughing a couple times but it was nothing too memorable. The stress of his parents' relationship falling apart in front of him must have been really taking a toll on his immune system.

"Here," I said, and held out the box of tissues.

Ricky plucked a few out of the box and blew his nose twice. "Thank you," Ricky said. "I just don't know what I'm gonna do about my parents. They're fighting more and more and it just gets nastier and nastier and I don't know if I can take it, Nini."

"I know, Ricky. It's okay. I'm here for you and we'll take it one step at a time. For right now I need you to focus on relaxing and calming down. I don't want you to get all worked up." I ran my fingers through his now-dry hair.

Ricky closed his eyes and took a deep breath that turned into a cough.

"You don't sound like you're doing too well, Ricky," My mom said, announcing her presence. "I brought the tea and I also brought some medicine for you."

"Thank you so much," Ricky said. "I really can't tell you how much this means."

My mom tousled Ricky's hair and smiled. "No worries, Ricky." With that, she left.

"Your moms are too nice," Ricky said. He took the mug of tea off of the table my mom had set it down on and took a sip. As he was drinking it the steam had started to clear him out and he blew his nose a couple of times. "This is awful. I'm so sorry. We're not even at my house where I can be gross in my own environment."

I smiled, "Ricky, it's okay. I think you're adorable. I just want to make you feel better."

"Thank you, Nini," Ricky said.

He spent a few minutes drinking the tea and I was able to get some medicine in him. After that he put the mug back on the table and immediately curled up in a ball in my lap.

"Just, wake me up if I'm snoring or something," Ricky murmured.

I agreed, but I didn't follow through. He needed sleep.
