When you lose everything how do you put yourself back together again? When your lost and scared who can help you when they're all scared too. No one can, you begin to feel like your empty and there isn't one thing you can do about it. That's how I felt every day. When my parents were living we noticed an infection starting surface. It had the world in its palm within minutes. It claimed the lives of over 2 million and became airborne within hours. Thus, began an apocalypse. Only those who lived and Busan, South Korea and who were rescued or fought their way through were able to live.
I couldn't help but pity myself. I was scared that I would now live in the same world as the infected. While my parents fought to keep me and my brothers alive they failed. They died 4 days after the virus had reached us. I would now have to rely on my brothers to keep us safe and healthy, but that all changed 10 months after the virus. Both of my brothers went out to get some groceries for our house. Knowing they would encounter the infected they took weapons, but they never made it back.
I didn't have much food left anymore and I didn't think I would be rescued anytime soon. I had given up. There was no electricity or water everything stopped working. My last day as a human I decided to try and fight my way to Busan. I knew it was a death sentence, but I had to try for myself. I wasn't sure how to drive or even fight for that matter. I truly felt like I was about to be on a suicide mission. I Grab a bag a begin to pack it with everything I had left. Then I did what my brothers did before they left I tapped my arms up and grabbed a baseball bat from my brother's room. As I neared the door I could feel a panic attack startup.
"You can do this Kinly!" I whispered to myself
I reached out to turn the lock on my door. I could feel my limbs begin to shake. My eyes started to water. It has been almost a year since I have stepped outside. As I turn the lock completely a disturbing sound bombarded my thoughts.
*CLICK*
I began to turn the knob. Successfully turning it the entire way I pull the knob towards me opening it slowly still scared of what might come. Once I get it open wide enough I feel a ray of sunshine rain down on my face. Smiling I close my eyes and take in what I longed for since the virus occurred. I then opened my eyes and looked at my surroundings. What I saw was devastating I saw rusted broken down cars, abandon home falling completely apart, and trees that looked rotten and dead. Once my sense of smell caught up to me I began to gag.
I knew exactly what that smell was; rotten corpse's from the virus. I started to take my first steps out of the door frame. I couldn't be more happier that I was outside but I was also scared that I would embark on this journey alone. I walked for a couple of miles not finding anything. Which led me to enjoy the time I had alone. It also made my life ten times harder. I didn't particularly like to be alone, but that was the way my life was. I knew I had walked extremely far when my legs began to give out knowing that I didn't have a lot more of time left to walk I decided to look for somewhere to hide.
I neared a highway and knew that looking for a Van might be my best bet. I scoured the highway for what felt like an hour. Before coming across a Jeep. I grab the bobby pin that I had put in my hair earlier and begin to try to get it to unlock. After much fighting, I start to cry as nothing works. My movements came to a halt when I heard dragging. My absolute worst fear stood just a few feet away from me. A zombie. He was tall and eyeing me while twitching. I knew if I didn't get the door open I would be dead meat. LITERALLY.
I started to move faster thrusting the bobby pin into the keyhole to get the door open. I could his footsteps coming closer and closer. With no-budge of the door I knew I would have to fight now more than ever if I wanted to live. He began to run towards me only a few feet from me. I readied my baseball bat and held a death grip on it. As he was now directly in front of me I pushed the bat into his stomach. Then, swung at him like a maniac trying to hit every part of him I could.
All of my movements froze when I swung the bat at him and he grabbed it. I started to cower away. What felt like slow motion the zombie ran into me pushing me onto the floor. I could the blood from the impact of the fall. The zombie was on top of me itching to bite any part of me it could. I put my forearm in his mouth hoping that it would keep him held off for a while. I started to squirm trying to get away when I felt a rush of a breeze. Above my head, I saw this huge helicopter with a big bold word that made me tear up. BUSAN ALLEGIANCE! I knew that if I could hold the zombie off for a bit I would be rescued.
I could someone nearing the edge of the craft as it tried to make its descent onto the ground. I started to feel a searing pain. As I looked down I had noticed the zombie biting down, on my forearm. My eyes began to water as he punctured the skin and I knew that at that point I was a lost cause.
