Gifted Liars

Chapter 2

"This morning, I have arranged a family meeting about the children in regard to their education." Sandra rises from her chair and divides the cake into pieces. She gives Tessa the biggest piece. Steve looks up at Sandra and looks at his watch.

"Well, I'm off to work. Enjoy yourselves." Steve stands up straight but soon sits down when Sandra eyes him. 

"Steve, you are not going anywhere. After the meeting, you can leave." Sandra takes out two envelopes. "This is for you Tessa and this other letter is for you David." They both take the letter from Sandra. "Read these letters in your rooms. But before you leave, listen to what I have to say. The academy that you two will be going to has chosen you. Which means you have to work hard and fulfil your potential." Sandra squeezes Tessa's hand softly. "Tessa, it may be a little difficult for you as you have never been let out of the house. Make sure you stay with your cousin." Tessa looks over at David and rolls her eyes. "Fine whatever you say." Tessa sarcastically says. 

"Did you hear her? She can't even talk properly." Steve slumps into his chair.

"Don't even dare utter anything else against her Steve. She is like my daughter and shall be respected like one."

Tessa takes her plate to the sink and puts it into the dishwasher. She goes over to the stairs and into her room, locking the door behind and clinging the letter close to her chest. Tessa goes over to her desk, turns the study light on and unveils the letter. It reads:

Dear Tessa Raiver,

This letter in your hands is to inform you that you have successfully got a position to Darkstone Academy. On behalf of the school, we would like to congratulate you on your position and hope for the best in your education. 

Start-up-information:

- A black taxi will appear at your house to collect you at 6:00 am next week on Monday. Make sure you have only a small suitcase with a backpack. Do not bring any food.

- The taxi will drop you off at the administrator's office. There you will be given a blood test to see which classes are the best for you and which team you will be put into. 

- A limo will be waiting for you and your team and would take you straight to the academy. The package that should be sent to you tomorrow has your uniform and your special item. 

- At the office, they will hand you over other necessary uniforms and your books.

Headmaster Leezer

Tessa runs across the room and grabs her suitcase and grabs some clothes that she could wear at the academy. Just as Tessa is about to grab her supernatural book, a knock comes from the door and Sandra pops her head through the door.

"Is it alright if I come in?" 

Tessa had to say yes because Sandra had defended her in the dining hall when Steve went against her.

"Sure, come in."

Sandra comes in with a big bag with an emblem embedded into it. She puts the bag next to Tessa and lets her have a look inside.

"This belonged to me when I went to the academy. The academy is very different from all the schools here. It's a school for those that have supernatural powers. People that attend the school are wizards, witches, genies, mind-readers and loads more weird people. It's best to keep this a secret. If humans find out that they exist, they will be hunted down. This means you can't tell the twins or Steve." 

Tessa promises Sandra that she won't tell a soul about it. 

"What do you want me to do with this stuff?" Tessa asks.

"Keep this ticket with you, it gives you a free ticket to special places such as the party area and the dungeons underground."

"Can I ask you something, if you attended the academy, what power do you have?"

"My power is that I can understand someone's emotion and can change their behaviour. I better be going now. Steve is about to go to work and I need to pack his lunch. Have fun packing." 

Just as Sandra is about to leave through the door, Tessa runs over to her and embraces her. "Thank you, Aunty, for always being there for me."

"That is what mums are for." She squeezes Tessa and kisses her on the forehead.
