"He'll be nothing but a troublemaker"
The elder man told his son, who held his newborn.
"He might find trouble. But at least he'll live. He'll find love I know he will!""Son, you don't know what it's like to have children-"
"I might not know, because guess what, he is my first born. But at least he won't grow up between people like you" He snapped.
"You don't know what you're getting yourself into. Especially with.."
"Go on say it! I dare you say it!"
".....a bastard"
"Do you have a problem with me having a kid, outside marriage? Because if that's a problem, there's no time, and it's also too late"
A older lady entered the room.
She wore a blank expression.
"She's fine" she faintly said her expression turning into disgust as her eyes fell on the baby.Just as the younger male approached her to leave, she rose her arm
"I'm warning you young man." She looked straight into his blue eyes, then quickly eyed the one wrapped in a blanket "You just crossed the line" She looked up to him again "Mark my words, for I don't recognize you as my son, or what you're holding as my grandkid. So forget it""Let me go." He roared. "Let me pass. I wish to see the mother of my son"
She gave him one more look of disgust and lowered her arm allowing him to enter into the other room.
The lady walked over to her husband. She placed a hand on his shoulder, sighed and gazed up to him
"What has he gotten into...""Something very dangerous my love"
"He's not going actually keep it, right?" She asked "Is he?"
"I truly hope he doesn't, he knows this is not the time to start a family" he sighed "He knows that our races shouldn't be mixed. They need to stay clean. A stain of a hybrid will build years upon years of more war" he pinched the bridge of his nose and looked into the fire place behind him
"I just wanted him to listen. You know I tried""He'll now face the consequences, there's nothing to worry about that"his wife comforted.
"But these consequences will hurt him" he responded.
"Yes. Sadly. But that's just the way life goes. That offspring of theirs needs to vanish before you-know-who sees him"
A look of worry shifted on her husband's face.
"Then, if that is." He looked into her eyes "We'll have to do something"
He spoke with a very serious tone "Personally do it. On our own""But leave no trace, my love. We must be careful" She petted her husband's cheek "Their little creature won't see another sunrise. Trust me dear" she gave him a small kiss "He won't. I promise"
He only nodded to her statement"They can't know that it was on purpose. It needs to look natural"He smirked "After all he was just born few minutes ago" he now gave a mischievous smile "Anything can happen to a newborn"
His wife's smile agreed "Like an infection"
"Like respiratory difficulties"He played along.
"Like dehydration"
"Like intaking the wrong drugs"
They were to the point of laughter.
They just continued to rejoice the ways of how easily a newborn baby can die. When she saw him enter the room she gave a small smile "Here comes the father of my son"her voice very faint, she was overwhelmed by the pain. Her skin now light brown, it used to be mocha coloured, her emerald eyes now a very pale pastel green and half closed. Her raven locks now were fizzy and had been joined by a streak of white.
She was only becoming weaker by each minute.
Nothing helped."Here comes together mother, father"
He walked to the bed, a smile on his face, sat beside his lover on the soft furniture."And our little boy"she smiled as she was able to hold her little one.
The blanket wrapped a see through, crystal egg, it was purple, no, pink, no, magenta, no, blue. It was different shades of cold colours, green outstanding from the rest.
She placed her hand on the fragile egg and spread it, feeling the texture.
Looking deep into it, there was the silhouette of a shadowed little polar bear-
Or was it a little human? Half human half bear? The silhouette kept on shifting, the dangers of a hybrid. Her smile faded as she turned her head only to see the sun go down, acknowledging that night would take over soon. Fear hugged the couple.
He gave a fake cough "So..what next?"
She looked up"What do you mean?"
"This is what we wanted, this is what we needed. You know that we have to leave."
Her eyes dropped to the egg"I know.."
"As much as it hurts me as it might hurt you. But you are aware that we can't stay here"
"We can't go anywhere in my village either"
"They would try to kill us wouldn't they? Just like here" he sighed.
"My parents already have tried" she sadly giggled.
"I know, I know... But at least you recovered, and nothing happened to you" his eyes also dropped to the egg and petted it, meeting his lover's hand.
She sighed "Haakon..."
"Yes my dear?" Haakon gave response.
"You know it's going to be impossible for us to leave"
"I am very aware, but I'm afraid that there's also no choice, Umbra"
"I know..." Umbra sighed once again. She hugged the shell, her eyes slowly started to fill with tears.
Haakon noticed her sadness.
"Hey" he lifted her chin, meeting a crying face "I know that what we wanted was fantasy based, and most certainly impossible but" he sighed "At least, we're trying"His words made her force a small but meaningful smile.
"Is it because species in general don't tend to have children this young, isn't it" she wondered."Well, starting a family at the age of eighteen...it's probably not the best" He attempted to smile again.
"But we did what we had to, some of us will take risks, to save ourselves"she petted the egg.
"Society might hate us. But we've done what we wanted, what we needed and what we had to do. So let society hate us, but as long as we're happy and have left this place. I promise we'll have future together"
"At midnight" she nodded.
"At midnight then" Her lover kissed her forehead, petted the egg once more and left, allowing the young mother to bond with what would and should be her little boy.
