This is my entry for the Open Novella Contest 2020.
Prompt 30 spoke to me because it is about memory:
"You make your living copying others' memories and selling them to people who want to remember things they've never done."
I have modified it as such:
"You make your living reading peoples' memories and selling them back to them in a more palatable way."
Prompt 4 also spoke to me, and though Prompt 30 inspired the idea for the main character and the story's focus on memory, Prompt 4 probably better encapsulates the theme.
"When something tragic happens, it's said we lose a piece of ourselves. How far would you go to find these lost parts and be whole again?"

This first-draft novella, The Medium of Memory, is set in 1901 and is inspired by the Gothic, supernatural and so-called "weird" tales of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Thank you for reading, and I do hope you enjoy it! Thought-provoking comments and constructive criticisms are much appreciated.
