A little story behind Persephone: She's the wife of Hades, the God of the Underworld. He took her away (there's different versions on that, but that's the most common one), and her leaving made her mother, Demeter, the goddess of Harvest and fertility, so sad that it became winter. Legend says that half a year Persephone is with her husband, the other half she returns to her mother, which is when spring and summer comes. That's why she's also the goddess of spring growth.
Even though she got taken by her husband, most stories say she had a happy life in the underworld. Hades gave her a garden of Jewels, since flowers can't grow there, and we he saw she was unhappy, allowed her to go up. I like to think that she was happy down there, in her garden.Hades is the god of the underworld, his two brother Zeus and Poseidon rule over the other kingdoms, earth and sea.
