Seoul, Mondo, seventh floor
Bo Hwa had unusually spent the day tidying up and cleaning the house. When she finished around noon, she checked her phone just in case Yoo Jin gave her news. Since the last call, nothing. She decided to stop thinking about it and went back to her room while thinking about an activity to do for the day. Apart from cleaning, she really didn't see what else she could do. She had even done the laundry for the whole house very early in the morning.
Tired and above all bored, Bo Hwa fell into bed with a long sigh that made her thoughts clear: no matter what good moral work comes along, I will accept it, she said to herself for the thousandth time.
For once in a long time, the heavy sleep like that of a heavy early afternoon rocked her. Her weighty eyelids closed very gently when Mi So's deep voice suddenly woke her up.- I have my interview in a few hours! She said in a panic. Have you seen my dress with sunflowers? The sleeveless one.
Bo Hwa shouted in stupor as she threw a pillow at the newcomer.
- You almost got my heart out of my fucking chest!
- I'm sorry, but it's urgent! She said as she fell on the bed too. It's my lucky dress and I feel like if I don't wear it today something terrible is going to happen to me! Or worse, terrible things!
- Argh! Frankly speaking, you and your superstitions!
Bo Hwa growled with dissatisfaction and got up. She headed for the laundry room and Mi So followed her from behind. She began to rummage through the clean laundry bin next to the washing machine and noticed the dress at the back.
- There it is! Don't thank me for washing it. Bo Hwa said by pulling the cloth with difficulty.
- Wait, how did you dry it? Machine or open air? Asked Mi So without daring to look at her favorite dress.
- Well, at the machine, what did you think?
Mi So took the dress with sunflower patterns, opened her mouth to scream but no sound came out. Her lucky dress has become as small as a child's sweater. Bo Hwa pleated her lips to stop laughing and put her hand against her mouth. Without difficulty, she gave a monumental laugh while apologizing.
- Oh, I'm so sorry! She said, wiping the tear from the corner of her eye. Maybe we can wet it again and try to stretch it out?
- BO HWAAAA! Mi So finally shouted, trying not to laugh too, it would have been too desperate. What am I going to wear now...
She wanted to cry. "Come with your personality" said her summons. All that remained for her to do was to show up in some perfectly ordinary outfit. She would have felt so good in her sunflower dress with a large brown knit sweater and her Doc Martens: the perfect outfit. And now, the main clothing of her perfect outfit was reduced to a mini dress.
- Come on, I'll help you find something else. Bo Hwa said, always laughing.
Mi So followed her friend into her room, sulking. Bo Hwa started looking for garments for Mi So in her closet, even though they both knew that the youngest would never fit into her clothes. Han Mi So sat in front of her friend's computer and forgot for a moment about her dress.
- You received a new email... she said when she opened the message. Shall I read?
- Yes, please. Mi So cleared her throat and began to read: "Magpie thanks you for your application and will meet you this afternoon at 2pm in Hongdae for an interview to discuss it in more detail. Counting on your presence, the whole Magpie team.”
- AAAAAH! You got an interview! Mi So cried happily. You’ll be no longer unemployed!
Bo Hwa's eyes sparkled with happiness. Even if it was only an interview, she felt like there was a firework in her heart.
- You'll be no longer unemployed! Said Mi So energetically again, she got up and shook her friend by the shoulders.
- I'll be no longer unemployed! Bo Hwa said, by going closer to her PC, just in case they were both dreaming. That's great! This may not be my dream job right now, but we're going to make money! It's AWESOME! She shouted with joy once again.
- Your eyebrows are horrible, but you’ll have a job! Mi So added, laughing like a whale. And you're going to work in Hongdae! It's right next to my university!
Finally, Bo Hwa began to prepare with Mi So. She was looking forward to starting work. Magpie was a very popular pub in Hongdae, it was best known for welcoming foreigners and Bo Hwa felt she would fit in well. The idea of spending days smelling good brewed beer and pizzas cooked over a wood fire made her very enthusiastic because that was the definition of everything she loved to eat.
She opted for a casual outfit: she put on her favorite tight black jeans, a large white T-shirt and a red checkered shirt to change from every other day - which she had spent in her pajamas. Before leaving, she looked in the mirror one last time and arranged her hair while trying to convince herself that she was doing the right thing. Once again, she put her dreams aside and all this for the sole purpose of being able to finance them.Mi So and Bo Hwa left the house talking about the things they would do once they had made enough money. They arrived at the ground floor.
- Finally, you're not too bad in that black suit... And that white shirt! Whoa! You look like you're going to your own funeral! Bo Hwa started looking at Mi So from head to toe.
- Shush, don't say anything more, Mi So ordered. Either it was my special outfit or it's the commonplace dress-code of all the interviews. Black and white.
Bo Hwa nodded and wondered if her friend really had nothing better. They were walking to the bus stop when Bo Hwa remembered that she had forgotten to turn off the heating.
- Damn, she said. You'll be late if we go back up together!
- Oh, well, that's okay. I'll take the subway instead. It's faster and if I arrive too early, I'll just have time to prepare myself a little.
- Are you sure about that? Bo Hwa asked, a little worried about her friend who had never taken the subway alone.
- Yes, don't worry about me, if I get lost I'll take a taxi... Mi So replied, trying to look convincing.
- As if you could afford it...
- Just to get to the nearest bus stop where I'll be... don't worry! She repeated while turning her heels. Come on, wish me luck!
- Break a leg...! Bo Hwa wished her sincerely with a smile.
- Hahahaha, you too.
Mi So turned one last time and shook her left hand to say goodbye to Bo Hwa.
The three eldest girls were always worried about letting Mi So go somewhere alone because she was the last one to arrive in Seoul. She got lost very easily and didn't always pay attention. Bo Hwa took the elevator and quickly forgot the problem as she thought about her future work days.
