I sat there on the ground. Unsure of what to do next. Do I plead? Do I run? How about we just lay here Oliver. Okay... yeah let's lay here for a second. After about a minute I got up. My jeans were dirty. I'd already cried for the past 25 minutes. I'd officially been kicked out. I sniffled and stood up. Cold air wrapped around my face chilling my spine to the bone. I walked and almost fell. My knees were covered in mud. My shirt drenched in tears. I slowly walked away towards the desert.
I walked up a steep mountain for over 45 minutes where I surprisingly found a...girl? She was sitting there. She looked up at me her eyes filled with tears and confusion.
"W-Who are you? G-Go away if my brother sent you-"
"Relax...I have no idea who you are." I said sitting down. I started playing with a rock as she stared at me. Her face was runny with mascara. She had a sketchbook. She was...drawing.
"What are you here for?"
"I was um..." I didn't say anything. "What?"
"I just...I was gonna walk over the edge." I said not looking at her. "Oh God..." She mumbled looking at me. "Hey hey don't cry..." She said sniffling as I started to tear up.
I could tell she was the type who cried herself to sleep but hated seeing other unhappy. I sobbed. "Why...?"
"M-My parents kicked me out. I have school Monday. And I have nothing but the clothes on my back..."
She bit her lip. "Do you have any...money?"
I sobbed and nodded. $140. "It means nothing now...I mean nothing."
She sighed. "Look...you can...b-be my roommate."
I looked at her with my eyes wide. My tears streamed across the sides of my face from the cold wind. I noticed her nose was red. Probably from being cold and crying.
"W-What...?"
"Yeah. You can pay rent. I need it anyways...what school do you go too?"
"Um...Carlton..."
"Oh...me too!"
I lightly smiled through my tears. "Well it's cold c'mon..."
We managed to make it down the mountain. By the time we did we were exhausted. I saw a flashlight. "This is private property!"
I looked at her. We knew what to do. We ran as a chubby man shouted at us in his robe. We ran as fast as we could for about 20 minutes straight. I felt alive. We made it to her small apartment. We were breathing hard. "Shhhh keep it down. The lady gets mad."
What lady?
She let us in and collapsed on her sofa. "Get us waters will you?"
I went into her kitchen. It took me a second to find it. I liked the smell of this small place. I went back over and sat down next to her very stiffly. "Oh...your name is...?"
"Oliver...and you?"
"Soledad."
