In 595 AD, Hadrat Khadijah was looking for someone to be in charge of her trading caravan to Syria. Hadrat Abu Talib suggested the name of his nephew Hadrat Muhammad to her. She had already heard of the stellar character of Muhammad and his trustworthiness as the Arabs called him Al- Sadiq " the truthful " and Al- Amin" the trustworthy " due to his modesty, simplicity, purity, and grace. She agreed to employ him although he did not have much trading experience. To serve him, and to accompany him, she sent with him, her old and trusted slave Maysarah.

On the way back from Syria, the Prophet Muhammad lay down under a tree to rest for a while. A Christian monk, Nestor, who was passing by, saw him and asked about him to Maysarah. Maysarah told him all about Prophet Muhammad. Nestor, after hearing that told him that this man would be elevated to Prophethood in the future, as no man had ever rested under that particular tree but prophets.

During their venture, Maysarah saw two angels bearing a cloud over the Prophet's head to protect him from the glaring heat of the sun.
He was stunned and astonished after witnessing these remarkable events.

When he returned to Mecca, Khadijah noticed, in her money, more profits and blessings than she used to. Her employee also told her of Muhammad’s good manners, honesty, deep thought, sincerity, and faith. Khadijah was very much impressed. And started thinking of sending a marriage proposal to him.

One of her close friends Nafeesah bint Manbah knew about her inclination. She hurried to Muhammad and requested his permission to let her ask a very personal question.

When he said he had no objections, she asked why he had not yet got married. He replied he did not have any financial resources to do so. Then she asked if he would consider marrying a beautiful lady from a noble and wealthy family. He asked whom she was referring to; when he learned her identity he said that he was willing; provided if she was will willing to marry him.

Khadijah was overjoyed when she learned that her proposal was accepted. She was 40 years old when she got married to Muhammad and the Prophet was then 25 years old. Prophet consulted his uncles. Then, two of his uncles, Hamzah and Abu Talib approached her uncle Umar bin Asad with the formal proposal. The date was fixed.

The two families began preparing for the wedding. On the date that was fixed, the families and friends gathered and marriage was solemnized. Halimah Saadiyah who nursed the Prophet in his infancy was specially invited. When she left, Khadijah presented her with household goods camel and forty goats as an expression of gratitude. Despite the disparity between their ages, the union proved extremely successful.

Only two months after his return to Mecca, he (PBUH) was married to Khadijah and she comes in the family tree of Muhammad (PBUH).

The marriage proved to be the blessed one. All of his sons and daughters were born from Khadijah except his son Ibrahim;

Qasim and Abdullah (also known as Tahir and Tayyab) and four daughters i.e, Zaynab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthoom, and Fatimah.

His sons all died in infancy before his mission began, but his daughters lived until after he became the Prophet.

The Prophet lived the days of his youth with the noble Khadijah in an atmosphere of stability that was not disturbed by anything, and he did not take any other wife until she died a few years after the Revelation began.
