She came back in the middle of the day in a foul mood, yelling and cursing at the staff. Good thing the kids were in the entertainment room watching The amazing world of gumball. Lester calls Mr Holland and he arrives 20 minutes later, I'm not much of an eavesdropper so I didn't dare go near their wing but I was dying to know what was going on, a little live telenovela scene ain't gonna hurt anyone plus this huge mansion really needs some drama.
I walk over to the kitchen and see Liza baking.
"So do you know what the yelling is about?" I ask
"From her yelling, cursing and breaking what looks like expensive stuff, I did pick up a few things". She pauses and I wait for about 30 seconds.
" Just spill Woman, I don't have all day. I have to get back to the kids. I wouldn't want them coming down to see the mess Miss Hailey made".
"God, I was just trying to go for some drama effect like in the soaps but anyways, I heard her say something like, 'no one ever breaks up with me, I do the dumping' seems the boss is finally coming back to his senses and realised he deserves better than her".
" She sure doesn't take rejection well. Thanks girl, you should have been a reporter". We both laugh "anyways, gotta go back to the kids". I grab the snacks and head back to the kids.
On my way back, I run into the last person I wanted to run into, Hailey. She shoves me aside to pass and I trip. Jared was a few meters behind her and he quickly runs to help me, our eyes make contact and I quickly avert them and thank him. I know I gotta get out of here as fast as I can because I know I'll be her next punching bag after the various vases and art pieces in the house.
" Oh, so is this why you want to end it? You're into pigs now?"
But I wasn't fast enough
"Hailey, this has nothing to do with Camilla. So please there's no need to be insult her. I apologize Cami, she quite upset".
" oh you call her Cami now"?
"I'll just leave now, I think I heard Ben call me." I quickly ran as fast as my legs could take me. I'm not about to get involved in Hailey's drama.
I get to the entertainment room and the kids are oblivious to the drama happening a few feet away. You gotta love a huge mansion for such occasions. I take a seat in the middle and we start having snacks, a few more episodes and we fall a sleep. Then silence, I open my eyes and I see Jared with the remote.
"Hey". I whisper
" Hey, sorry if I woke you"
"No, it's fine. Was just a nap plus I shouldn't be napping on the job". That was my sad attempt at a joke but he does smile.
" I'm sorry you had to see that, and I'm sorry about what Hailey said ".
"There's no need to apologize Jared. Insults like that don't hurt me anymore" I get up and carry Ben. " would you mind helping"? I ask and he immediately walks over to carry lily.
We take them to their rooms for their afternoon naps and as I walk out of Ben's room I find Jared in the hall, waiting for me.
"What did you mean by 'insults like that don't hurt you anymore'?"
"There was a time, her insult would have hurt me but it doesn't bother me no more. I learned when a person insults or body shames another, its says more about their own insecurities than about the other person. I always struggled with weight, plus I was a late bloomer. Kids teasing me, bullies in high school until I finally did it and I lost a lot of pounds to look like Hailey. I was once her size but I wasn't happy and I couldn't let other people dictate my life. I learned to love myself and my body".
He looks at me for a while and says, " You're Amazing, you know that"?
I blush, "Thank you".
Then awkward silence
Silence
" I hope you're ok" I break the silence.
"I'm fine, thanks. That break up was long over due and again I'm sorry".
" you gotta stop apologizing, it's fine and I get it".
Silence again
"I'm gonna go help in the kitchen, thanks again". I walk out hurriedly.
I rush to the kitchen, my heart pumping so fast.
" The witch has finally left" Liz shouts
"Shhh, Mr Holland might hear you". I say
" I don't think he would mind. By the way, I heard her insult you. Sorry".
"It's no big deal, I've heard worse". I shrug it off
" so, I also heard how the boss calls you Cami ". With a questioning yet teasing look.
"Oh no, you aren't gonna tease me, not today. I came here to help. You want it or not?"
"OK, fine. I'll get you another time." We both laugh. "I'm only letting it go for now because I wanna leave early today to pick Jess from school".
Dinner was awkward and funny. It was a first, having dinner with Jared all together with the kids. It kids were surprised and happy about it and also confused.
Lily kept asking her father questions like 'Daddy, why are you having dinner with us?' 'Daddy, I thought you are only allowed to eat greens'. 'Daddy, why are you having dessert? Hailey will be mad'. His attempt to answer the questions was even funnier with replies like, 'I thought it would be nice to have dinner as a family' and her facial expression definitely said she wasn't convinced 'Who told you? I eat whatever I want' and 'Hailey won't be coming by anymore'. This made lily put her fork down.
" What do you mean, she won't be coming by anymore "?
" Well, she and I are not together anymore ".
" when did this happen?"
"Today".

" Daddy, I'm glad she's gone. Now you can be with Camilla ".
I choked, Jared choked in unison.
