"Hey, Sky, catch me if you can!"
Jessica's scream rang through the valley. She and her friends were in a meadow, vast and full of flowers and hills, playing tag. She squealed when Sky caught up to her and gave her a light smack on the back.
"Boop! Now you're it, Jess!"
She whipped around and searched for her next victim. She noticed Jin not to far away, so she ran towards him, her short legs carrying her as fast as she could go. Jin, after a solid 7 minutes of Jess chasing him, decided to just give up and stop so that she could tag him.
"Boop! Now you're it!" She said, relieved that she could finally catch her breath for a minute, and flopped down in the tall grass.
"Whatever. I only stopped 'cause you're so short and can't run fast." Jin mockingly replied back."Hey!" Jess huffed. "It's not my fault I'm so short!" Yet her head when she was sitting down was only about 10 inches from the top of her head. 'You're just tall!'
"Well, maybe I am. Now, c'mon, let's keep playing." Jin helped heave her up off the ground, and noticed Ross in the distance, running towards him instead. Jess sighed, and ran back into the fray.
~~~An Hour Later...~~~
Jess bit into her sandwich. She smiled as the gooey peanut-butter dripped from her chin.
They had given up playing Tag after another hour, their kiddie energy gone and in need of a refill. They all sat on a red-and-white picnic blanket in the shade of a tree, enjoying a sandwich, water, and apple each.
"Thanks, Ross. You mom makes good sandwiches!" Max said, already almost finished with his sandwich.
Ross grinned, and put his hands on his hips "Yeah, she does. She's amazing at cooking!"
Ever since Ross had opened the picnic basket, and he and Jess had gotten everything set up, they bright blue sky had transformed itself into a piercing gray, and thunder roared in the distance.
Once, it got so close that Jess squeaked in fear and grabbed Sky's arm, but he just shook her off.
She was also confused, almost as much as she was terrified of the thunder looming in the distance. To her, it didn't sound...normal. Like it wasn't a natural thunder, and something else was causing this soon-to-be terrible storm. She had a nagging feeling in her stomach that something dreadful was going to happen, but since she knew that she hated thunderstorms and loud noises, she just shook it off as that.
That was the worst mistake she had ever made.
