He yawned loudly, blinking himself awake. He went to get up, but fell back down when his shoulder started burning, as if someone were twisting a knife in his back. He yelped and gripped it with his other hand, curling into a ball. He could already feel blood seeping through the bandages that wrapped his upper torso.
The door slid open and a figure rushed in, kneeling beside him. "Are you alright?!" they asked worriedly. He shook his head, trying to clear his vision. Leaning over him was a young man with dazzling blue eyes and chestnut hair, his skin lightly tanned. He slightly uncurled and stared at the man, the pain dulling, "W-Who are you?" The young man smiled, "I am Lieutenant Aaron of the Cerulean Guard. May I ask your name?" He frowned, hesitant.
Aaron sighed, "It's fine. I wouldn't blame you for being wary. After what happened, I'm sure you had to be careful." He gently removed the bandages on his shoulder and redressed the wound, cleaning off some of the blood with a wet cloth. At that point, he had remembered exactly what happened. The palace on fire, his mother lying on the floor covered in blood, running through the courtyard and out of the gate, the arrow.......
His face darkened, "Nakamura." Aaron leaned back, "Huh?" "Yuko Nakamura." Aaron was confused, then realized what he meant. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Nakamura." He stood up and took out some clothes from a drawer next to the mat, "If you feel up to it, you can change into these later. You're free to walk around these grounds as much as you like, but until those wounds heal, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you not to wander too far without notifying someone."
Yuko sighed, "Well, thank you.......for saving me that is....." Aaron smiled, a hint of concern in his voice, "Please, who wouldn't after seeing something that bloody." Yuko chuckled sadly, pulling the blanket tight around him, "Actually, a lot of people. Crimson mostly." Aaron flinched, "Crimson? What are you talking about? We're allies, of course they would care." Yuko shot up, eyes widening, "ALLIES?! WITH THE CRIMSON DRAGON?!" The walls rattled at his voice.
Aaron looked surprised. "Hold on, did news of the alliance not reach Oushidari?" Yuko went quiet, "How did you....." Aaron rubbed the back of his neck, "Your necklace gave it away. Plus, you seem to have forgotten the part about the Cerulean Guard. Of course I know that Nakamura is the name of the royal family." Yuko's face flushed, "Wow, I'm an idiot for not thinking of that.........." Aaron knelt back down, "But honestly, you haven't heard of the alliance?" Yuko looked at the floor, "We were a bit busy handling a rebellious uprising."
Aaron pursed his lips, "Alright, I can't argue that one. But seriously. To stop the war, Princess Clove married Prince Kyro....." His face darkened as he said it. "We've been at peace for a while now.....and we even sent a messenger to the palace....." Yuko's face darkened as well, "That must have been the head on the post outside the gates." Aaron flinched, "Head on a post? What the hell was going on over there?"
Yuko sighed, "I have no clue. My mother was doing just fine at ruling the kingdom, but the people suddenly revolted and started sieging the palace. It went on for nearly a month before they actually broke through the gates.........."
He put a hand to his bandages, "I think you can imagine what happened after that....." Aaron was almost afraid to ask. "Then the Queen..........."
Yuko looked up at him, his irises a shocking color of black, where before they had been brown. "Naturally. What rebel insurgents DON'T kill the reigning monarch and their family when they take over?" Aaron was dead quiet, shocked as much by Yuko's tone as well as the change in his eyes.
Yuko's eyes faded back to brown and he shook his head, "Oh, uh, sorry. That happens a lot....."
Out of nowhere, Aaron full on laughed. "Just a thought, but if the Azure and Crimson Dragons ever had kids, do you think their dragon forms would turn out purple?" Yuko stopped, his face between confused and questioning.
In the back of his head he was like: God damn this boi knows how to cheer someone up, how did I find this boi, he is the goodest boi.
Yuko burst out laughing, but when it jerked on his wound, he winced and curled back into a ball. Aaron leaned over and gently massaged his shoulder, relieving some of the pain, "You should take it easy, alright? We can talk more another time. Right now, I have to get back to patrol."
With that, he walked out the door, leaving Yuko to his thoughts.
