Cara's pov;
My alarm clock buzzed and I rolled over,my need to push it off the table was only stopped when I remembered it was my new phone, and the newest iPhone out.
"Cara darling, are you awake?" My mother said in her cheery tone from outside my door.
"Yeah, I'm up." I said sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Your breakfasts ready, it's on the table, don't let it get cold hun!" She said, and I heard her slowly disappear down stairs.
I moaned and picked my phone up to FaceTime sass. Sass Is one of my best friends ever, we met when we were about four and apparently we were wearing the same designer jacket to our first day of primary, and that's why we decided we were going to be best friends. Sass, obviously, is a nickname, in St George's, all the most popular girls have a nickname, mines is Cc, coming from my initials, Cara Cortebellia. It's Spanish,my fathers parents were Spanish, but both of my parents were raised in Scotland, where as I was brought up in England. Talk about a mixed up family huh?
Anyway, as usual she answered straight away and was bouncing around her room getting dressed.
"Morning gorg!" She giggled, sass was always hyper.
"Morning stinky."I replied quite bluntly , as I pulled my skirt and shirt out of my cupboard. For being such a private and perfect school, most of us always wore short skirts and buttoned down shirts. Un-shy of getting changed in front of my best friend I pulled off my jammas and changed into my school clothes, while she finished her makeup, using the camera as a mirror.
She always made such an effort.
I flung my tie on and quickly brushed my hair, it was only 7:30, and school started at 8:00, I had half an hour to dot about the house.
"So, is that house across the street still empty? That's almost 7 months, normally there would be some silly family with like 10 kids in there by now C' " said sass, struggling to buckle the tiny metal piece on her shoes,
"Yeah it still looks empty," I said peering out my window at the gloomy house, "maybe we have so many families on this street because each house has at least 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, not to mention the two living rooms In every house for about a mile and the walk in wardrobes for nearly every room, including that we're only half an hour away from St George's, the only private girl school until the borders?" I laughed slipping my flats on and taking my phone downstairs.
"Your toast got cold babe." My mother sighed from the couch,
"It's fine, I'll get food at school." I groaned before hanging up on sass and leaving, with my bag slung over my shoulder. Sass handily lived in the identical house right next door to us, but we didn't work this out until we were 7.
Sass waved at me from her window, and motioned for me to come up.
I walked through the living room into the kitchen where her brother and her mum were having breakfast,
"Morning Cara." Smiled her mum.
"Morning Heather!" I winked.
"Good morning smelly!" I giggled ruffling her brother,Thomas' hair.
"Stop it Cara!" He laughed loudly.
I sat at the table and grabbed myself some juice, this house, was so much more like home.
"Caraaaaa!" I heard sass sing as she bounced down the stairs.
"Livvyyyyyy!" I laughed putting my glass in the sink.
Olivia is sass' real name, but it is only me and her family that are aloud to call her that, my mother always calls her 'baby doll' which is cuter than what I get.
"You all ready to go then gang?" Her mum smiled brightly picking up her phone and her keys, sass' mum is so lovely and bouncy, just the way Olivia is, with their musty blonde hair and green eyes that glitter when they smile. Olivia's mum though, was small and slightly weighed, beside Olivia who was tall and lanky, just over shadowing me by an inch or two.
I was quite small, not too small, around about 5'5maybe, but with the limited food I eat my body holds vaguely any weight. Olivia's mum was always happy and kind, unlike my mother, who cries at almost anything I do wrong, and is pushy and often quite hurtful.
But she has a way around it, where she pretends she's all lovey-dovey until something happens. But unlike usual, I can't run now and see my father in his study when she acts up. He would compromise with her, with his soft tone and loving nature.
My father left us for the war about 6 months ago, and only his body returned. Shot down while fighting for a country he had only lived in for 19 years, it was horrific, and that's when mother got worse. She cries all the time for no reason, and works most of the day. So I'm always happy when I go to Olivia's. It's a nicer environment.
The drive to school was full of excited conversation and laughter, as normal.
Eventually we pulled up outside the school, and the rest of the girls were at the gate waiting for us, also as per usual.
The group of us is made up of five. Me, Sass, Viccy, El and boo. Of course, there was reasons for the nicknames, mines and Viccy being our names, (Cara and Victoria)
Sass, being because when it comes down to it, Olivia is quick to stand up for the group, and almost everybody cowers away when sass gets serious.
El, is actually Sophie, but her overpowering love for elephants since she could see colours gained her hers.
And Boo, Bethany, is the most popular and beautiful of the five of us by far. Her perfect brown locks flow over her shoulders like she tries super hard, although she makes minimal effort. And boys from the private school next door pretty much drool when we're playing hockey with them.
We hugged all the girls and swayed towards schools. We were in almost all the same classes together as a group and that's why we had became so close. The day went by really fast until we had to go to PE. As we flicked our ponytails and carried our hockey sticks over our shoulders the boys sitting on the benches ready waiting whistled and pointed.
We laughed and smiled at each other, for being girls, hockey's our thing, and we need to make that clear. (Apart from sass, she would kill if she broke a nail)
But suddenly an unfamiliar face in a non-uniform outfit caught my eye, he was leaning against the mesh wires around the court, and playing around on his phone.
"Who's that?" I asked, squinting my eyes to see if it made his face any clearer past his beanie and locks of brown curls that flicked up around it.
"No idea, but he looks weird, stay away from him until we find out who he is." Sighed boo whacking the ball away from El's feet.
