ɢᴏᴏᴅ ᴇᴠᴇɴɪɴɢ sɪʀ.❞ Renjun bowed a full 90° after approaching the pink haired man who was staring out the window down to the empty courtyard.

Na Jaemin.

The King of the beloved Kingdom of Hearts. Despite the name he lived lovelessly, always searching for love but never quiet getting it in the way he desired.

See, the king had the special ability to steal the heart of anyone he pleased. It was a blessing at first, an easy way for him to quickly get women from other kingdoms into his bed. And it continued to be a blessing until one of those women bore his child, a much frowned upon half blood child that she left with Jaemin after showing up one evening and dropping off the baby.

The thing about Jaemin's 'gift', was that while he could make anyone love him, he couldn't make himself love just anyone. His standards were high and unfortunately his heart had no interest in starting anything intimate.

The fact that he also hated commitment didn't help any of this.

On top of all this, he now had a child to take care of.

His son Casteil was a very quiet boy. However, Jaemin knew close to nothing about his son. He barely spared the boy any time, leaving the palace staff to handle the raising of his sob. He was a rather cold man, his charming looks deceiving some until his harsh interior was revealed to them.

Jaemin had no clue, but the person in the palace who had taken on the role of Casteil's father was none other then his top officer, Huang Renjun.

Renjun was a tough man, the leader of the royal guard and frankly one of the most loyal men Jaemin had. Renjun was always responsible and strong around the other officers, but when he was around Casteil, he felt like he could put his guard down, his soft side shining through around the child.

Rumor had it that when Jaemin and Renjun were children, Jaemin accidently stole his friends heart without being aware of his ability. Reason being, Renjun always became happier thinking about Jaemin and Jaemin always seemed a bit happier with Renjun around.

It was strange that the one person Jaemin may have feelings for was the same person he gave one of the most life threatening jobs. As top officer it was Renjun's duty to not only command the lower officers and keep them in check but also to patrol the palace and take on the most difficult tasks and cases assigned to them.

They had a very difficult case on their hands at the moment. The same case that he had been at for the last couple months.

A criminal in the kingdom that had been haunting them for weeks. They called him the 'Phantom terror', the name given since no one had ever seen the person behind the crimes and they always struck when people fell asleep. Renjun had a feeling that this criminal wasn't their everyday case. Every witness of his crimes had remained silent, saying they would do anything to protect the killers identity. Even if it was the victim of one of the attacks, they always had the same reason for remaining silent.

It was strange to Renjun because, the dedication seemed deathly familiar..

"Ah, Renjun. How's that case of yours going?" Renjun sighed.

"Fine I guess.. I mean, it's nothing like what I've seen before.. This phantom guy really likes to tease me. It's like everytime I get close to catching him he distracts me and gets further away. It's frustrating." Jaemin nodded and turned away from the window.

"Would you walk with me?" Jaemin asked. Renjun nodded and followed Jaemin. They made their way downstairs and outside until they were wandering the paths of the old courtyard. Renjun smiled at Jaemin.

"Remember when we used to play here?" Renjun asked as he walked up to the fountain. He stood up on the edge and moved as if he was sword fighting with a dragon. "I was always the fighter-"

"Yes, because mother would get angry if my clothes got dirt on them. And because if we we're both fighters then who would fish you out of the fountain when you fell in." Jaemin said, ruffling the olders hair and continuing to stroll down the paths of white-washed stone. Renjun blushed a bit and followed.

The older watched Jaemin's blank expression for anything: any hint or trace of a smile, any trickle of nostalgia in the youngers gaze as he looked around the garden, but he saw none. Rather, he was met with the harsh cold gaze of the powerful man glaring down at him.

"I-is there something troubling you sir?" Renjun asked, cursing his voice for trembling as he choked out the words. Jaemin turned fully and looked down at Renjun.

"I want that man beheaded before the entire kingdom when you find him."

Renjun blinked at the harsh, straight forward nature of the youngers command.

"B-but sir, don't you think that's a bit-"

"Huang Renjun, are you questioning your king?" Jaemin asked, stepping toward the older and grasping his wrist firmly before leaning down to whisper in his ear. "Because I think we both know the punishment for that.." Jaemin whispered as his other hand remained resting on Renjun's chest, right above where his heart resided. Renjun gulped, biting his bottom lip as the overwhelming feeling of his heart pulling toward Jaemin increased. He nodded and Jaemin stepped away, walking off elsewhere in the garden and leaving Renjun to let out the breath he never knew he was holding.

"Na Jaemin, you're gonna be the death of me someday.." He whispered to himself before turning and storming back into the palace.

An order was an order.
