ᴊᴇɴᴏ ʟᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛᴏᴡɴ ʙᴇʟᴏᴡ ʜɪᴍ ᴡɪᴛʜsᴍᴀʟʟ sᴍɪʟᴇ. They were so vulnerable, and weak. It was funny to him how they waited like helpless prey for him to strike again, the almighty royal guard striking fear in the hearts of none, especially not Jeno.

He was the most talented criminal in the kingdom, what was their to fear. He knew Renjun had no chances of capturing him anytime soon.

Jeno jumped down from the roof and put his hood up, throwing his hands in his pockets as he approached the small antique shop.

Jeno's crimes were never too bad. He never killed anyone and rarely did he severely injure anyone. Only when he had to. But Jeno had a gift. A gift that only the King was said to have.

Jeno had grown up fascinated by the King. He had read every textbook excerpt about his family tree, every news article about his son, every snippet of information about his power to steal hearts and he grew to love the King. He knew he never had a chance when hundreds of beautiful women swarmed the town, swooning and sighing about how marvelous their beloved and twisted King looked.

But he was so infatuated by how in the world the King stole peoples hearts.

Some say he brings them into a dark room and cut them open, removing the organ himself.

Some say he makes the stars fall from the sky and catches one, making you eat it and set your heart on fire until you cough it up.

Some say it's just a cover-up for some forbidden spell he can cast.

But Jeno knew the truth.

He knew how the King could steal hearts, because he could too.

After years of studying and practicing, messing with black magic, alchemy and any sort of spell he could get his hands on, he finally found the secret to taking hearts.

See, everytime the king took someones heart, he lost a little of his own. It was a side effect that the King knew nothing about, so he stole whoever's heart he pleased. But, overtime the consequences took their toll and Na Jaemin, the Kingdoms beloved heartthrob, could no longer love like before.

Jeno knew how it felt.

He himself had been born with the gift to take a persons heart, and he did it all the time. Anytime someone caught him in the act of a crime he stole their heart so love would do the rest and stop them from telling a single soul.

Tonight would be no different.

Or so he thought.

He walked into the small shop, the bell ringing to make his presence known, but he didn't mind. He didn't take the old dolls off the shelves. Instead, he headed further into the shop until he found where the shop clerk stored his food for the day since the shop was both his home and workplace. He took the two loaves of bread in one of the cupboards and a small slice of meat from the fridge, closing everything carefully behind him and leaving a simple metal coin on the table. It was a worthless piece of metal, but it was his signature item to tell people he had struck.

He began to exit the shop, approaching the door calmly, until he felt a pair of strong arms push him to the ground. He shook his head and looked up to see a man in a dark blue uniform, a shining silver sword with the kings insignia pointed towards him. The man smirked.

"So I finally got you." Jeno sighed and stood up.

"Maybe you have.." He said calmly, setting down the food he had in his hands. In one swift movement he knocked the sword out of the mans grasp, grabbing his wrist and holding the older against the wall. He looked directly into the boys dark eyes, his hand pressed firmly on the others chest and felt the small burning sensation in his ribcage.

He was stealing the mans heart.

But nothing happened.

Jeno's eyes widened

"Who are you.." He breathed softly, his eyes filling with wonder and curiosity. The boy didn't try to escape. Instead he matched Jeno's steady gaze, his breath shallow.

"You're under arrest for being the source of multiple robberies." He said quietly. Jeno's shoulders dropped and he frowned with a sigh. He dropped his hands and watched as the boy fidgeted with things in his pockets.

He looked down at the loaves of bread and slabs of meat on a platter that he had set on the floor and felt sadness flood his mind. He walked over and slowly picked up the food, holding it in his hands with longing in his eyes. The officer looked at him as he approached him with handcuffs.

"What's so important about a little bread anyways?" He asked. Jeno glared down at him.

"What's it to you." He growled. He dropped the bread and let the older put him in handcuffs. "You never answered me princess." He smiled, his mood changing suddenly when he felt the other pause at the pet name before shaking his head.

"R-Renjun. Huang Renjun, head of the royal guard." He said, his voice small at first until he fixed it to be full of authority. Jeno smiled.

"Well, I hope we can grow to be good friends Renjun." Renjun scoffed.

"In your dreams. A criminal like you and an officer like me don't mix." Jeno smiled, his eyes turning to crescents despite being pushed out the shop door by Renjun.

"Glad to hear you already like me honey!"
