I am nervous. More nervous than I have ever been in my entire life, tonight is the night that I will see and face Bently again, after four years of no contact. Things with Bently and I ended rather abruptly, and the more I think about that time, the more I regret how I let him walk away. While tonight is Siena and Beck's night, I'm not focused on them rather, I can't stop thinking about his piercing grey eyes. Being the maid of honor and Bently being the best man, has made it impossible to completely avoid each other. The rehearsal dinner was awkward and uncomfortable, I made sure to busy myself with helping Siena prepare rather than conversing with Bently. I saw him stare at me a couple of times, and I couldn't help but smile. He looks the same as four years ago, except even more handsome and mature. I noticed he didn't bring a date, but I know I can't hope for things to return to normal between us, especially not when he finds out about Ava...
"Eli honey, stop fidgeting."
Eli looks up at me, pleading with his big brown eyes. I almost can't believe he's already seven years old, he looks so handsome and grown up in his dark black suit. Siena insisted that Eli be the ring bearer and Ava be the flower girl. I was nervous, at first about them having such prominent roles in the wedding, but with lots of practice I know they'll pull it off.
"It's itchy!" He whines.
I sigh and pick up the extra dress shirt I had bought along, just incase something like this happened.
"You can either keep the green shirt and be dressed like all the other men in the wedding, or wear the purple shirt."
I hold up the dark purple shirt that matches all the bridesmaid dresses. Eli sigh and stops messing with his shirt.
"I'll wear the green."
I smile and straighten his pistachio green tie. Taking Eli's hand we head towards the men's dressing room.
"Eli go find your Uncle Beck, I'm sure he'll want to see you all dressed and ready before the ceremony."
Eli runs off and I watch to make sure he gets to the right room. As I turn around to head back to the dressing room to find Ava, I run into my father. He looks handsome and proud in his dark black suit, and pistachio green dress shirt. I know my father is super excited about today, as we all are, he keeps reminding me that there is someone waiting out there for me to marry one day.
"Nadia, is your sister almost ready?"
I smile and straighten his tie, "Yeah, a few more touches and she'll be perfect."
My dad smiles at me, his toothy lopsided grin that I was afraid I'd never see again. My parents weren't too thrilled with me when they found out I was pregnant with my second child, and they were even angrier when I told them I wanted to keep the baby daddy out of it. But after four years of working hard, and getting my degree, with two small children I made them pretty proud.
"I should go see how Siena's doing, and find Ava."
My dad nods and sends me away. When I re-enter the dressing room I'm greeted with nothing but a hustle of women staring at mirrors, pinning down hair and adding final touches to make up. Siena smiles when she see's me and I rush over to her.
"Siena you look gorgeous," I say.
Her smile widens, "Is it strange that I'm not nervous at all?"
