'Zzzzzzz. Zzzzzzz. Wh-what time is it?'
'WHOA! I OVERSLEPT!' Hilda screamed in exhaustion.
It was 8 AM. She quickly packed her bag, changed her clothes and skipped breakfast. With the speed of light, she cycled to school.
'8.15, phew! I'm on time!'
'Hilda, what's wrong with your looks?' Rosa asked.
'Huh? Oh, I didn't have enough time to dress properly, I overslept' Hilda said.
'Oh all right, by the way, you forgot your bra', Rosa said, trying to be polite.
'Dammit, luckily it isn't cold today', Hilda said, not worried about forgetting her bra.
'Well, let's get to class!', Rosa said.
'Hello Hilda', a familiar soft voice said.
Hilda turned around, and saw Hilbert smiling towards her.
She smiled back, and said: 'Hey Hilbert! Gonna make a game for PE!'
'Yeah! Luckily I'm with you, I mean, I'm bad at sports but you're good at it!', Hilbert said.
So, did he mean he was lucky to be with me because I'm good at sports, and not because he has a crush on me? Hilda was overthinking again.
School was over for today. Hilda was about to cycle home, but suddenly she reminded herself of something. How come Hilbert normally is shy and quiet? Today he spoke with her and he wasn't that quiet at all! Could something have happened to him which causes him to be quiet? She decided to follow him to home.
Halfway through, she saw a few boys and girls on the street shouting at him.
'Hey loser!', one shouted.
Hilda saw Hilbert trying to ignore them and continued walking.
But then, one grunt grabbed a stone and threw it to him.
Hilbert was hit, and stopped walking. Hilda could see him crying a little. Then, the others all took stones, and were prepared fo throw them. Without thinking any longer, Hilda jumped in front of Hilbert. The stones hit Hilda.
She was too furious to think about her pain.
'Hey y'all! Funny, isn't it, bullying a younger boy?', Hilda screamed.
'Who are you and what are you doing here?', one grunt asked.
'You better leave or I'm calling the police!', Hilda screamed.
The group of youngsters left. Hilda hurried herself to Hilbert, who was on the ground.
'Hey, you alright?', Hilda asked with a soft voice.
'Y-yeah. H-how about you?', Hilbert asked. 'You were hit with stones!', Hilbert added.
'Don't worry about me. Should I, uhm, walk you home?' Hilda asked.
'Y-yes, thank you', Hilbert said.
Hilda asked questions. She asked why they threw stones at him, and why he never talked so much. His answers were vague, and Hilda decided to speak with Miss Black, Hilbert's mom.
'Hello miss.', Hilda said.
'Oh, hey hello. If it isn't Hilda!', miss Black said.
'Uhm, I wanna talk about Hilbert', Hilda said quietly, so Hilbert wouldn't hear.
During the conversation, Hilda asked questions like how he would behave at home, and if she knew about the youngsters which bully him.
Miss Black didn't know, and admitted she found it weird why Hilbert was so quiet.
After the conversation, miss Black thanked Hilda for the information, and for caring about Hilbert.
Hilda blushed. Miss Black promised to keep an eye on Hilbert.
'Oh, and by the way, wanna stay for dinner? I'm almost certain Hilbert behaves differently towards you', miss Black said, followed by a wink.
'You know what I mean, eh?', miss Black asked.
'Sure do!', Hilda replied with a smile. Maybe Hilbert was indeed in love with her!
Hilda thanked miss Black for the dinner, and went home.
'Mom, I'm home!', Hilda shouted.
'Ah, there you are! Everything alright?', miss White asked.
'Yeah! But I'm gonna go to my room now!', Hilda said happily.
She ran up the stairs and entered her room. She took her phone, dialed Hilbert's number, and clicked on call...
