I was out for a walk one day on a very lovely after noon. The sun was out and there was only a slight breeze. It had been cold out for a while, so it felt so nice to finally walk outside again. Not many people were outside which surprised me, considering the lovely weather, but I didn't give it much thought. I was just enjoying myself.
As I was about to turn around to head back home, a sudden huge gust of wind swept over me. It flung my hair forward and it almost felt as if I was just smacked in the back of my head. I looked up and noticed that the sky, that just seconds ago was clear and full of sunshine, had suddenly turned dark and cloudy. It was almost as if I only blinked and the weather instantly changed. The wind continued to blow harshly, so I picked up my pace. I was nearly running back to my house.
A loud crashing sound suddenly erupted from the sky and lightning struck down, hitting a tree near me. Extremely near me. I'd say only a few feet.
I suddenly didn't feel safe. I ran, not knowing what it was that I was running from. That's when more explosions in the sky went off, striking down near me. The lightning was hitting mailboxes, trees, cars, and other objects, leaving a fire blaze and destruction behind me as I ran. I felt hot tears beginning to stream down my face as I started calling for help. I didn't know why I did this, no one was around and even if there were people around what would they be able to do?
I couldn't explain why but it definitely seemed like the sky was attacking me and trying to get me dead. All I could do is run and get back to my house but I didn't even know if that would matter. It wasn't like getting to my house would instantly make me safe. But then it clicked in me that maybe getting inside would be a lot safer then just running outside like a crazy woman.
I ran up to the door to the first house I could find. I tugged on the handle without thought, but the door wouldn't budge. I screamed for help and banged on the door, but nothing was happening. A lightning bolt struck the roof of the home, sending debris falling down. It nearly crushed me but I ran to the next house and did the same thing. Still nothing. I ran door to door screaming as if I had gone insane, which it sure felt like I was going crazy.
I continued to run as the lightning strikes seemed to be striking closer and closer. I had finally seen my house and felt a huge wave of relief. I didn't know why seeing my house made me feel so safe, but it really did. I ran up to my house as I panted louder which each sloppy step.
I had reached my door step when lightning suddenly struck my foot, sending a painful volt all throughout my body. I only remember feeling the pain for a second before I collapsed to the ground.
I'm not sure how I ended up in the hospital, but I had made it. My foot was purple and red and I had no feeling in it. I knew that I had barley survived. I was in the hospital for weeks before I was released, and my foot was completely paralyzed. Once I was back into the real world, no one looked at me the same. Many claimed that god wanted me dead and that it was wrong that I had survived when he was trying so desperately to kill me. I still have no explanation.
