The next day I woke up, still to the sound of complete silence but then the events from yesterday flooded my thoughts and I felt my stomach drop. I closed my eyes and breathed in, telling myself not to worry. Everything was fine. I opened my closet and decided to go with pink metallic skinny jeans and a white blouse. I pulled the blouse up, even though it was supposed to be lower.
Perfectly conservative.
Out of all my classes, theater, of course, was my absolute favorite. So when lunch time came around, I made sure to ramble on about how great Mr. Sheen was and how Margaret should take his class next year.
"I'll totally consider it." she told me, taking a sip of her vitamin water.
I ate a piece of fruit as I sat beside Harry at our table. It was the girls and I, and then some of our guy friends/boyfriends. We'd known each other since middle school and were together ever since.
I ate another piece of fruit as I looked around the cafeteria. Kids were chattering, some reading and some drawing. Football players played with their lunches instead of eating them while some finished theirs and started on their friends. I looked through the translucent door to the lunchroom when I saw Mr. Kenton passing by. I froze, my stomach dropping as he locked eyes with mine as if to say,
"I know your thinking of me."
I pushed my food away, my appetite ruined. Harry turned to me, a look of worry on his face.
"Luna? Did you hear me?"
I looked up at him and into his beautiful eyes. "Sorry, what?"
"Never mind. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I'm just not that hungry."
I leaned against him, and he placed a kiss upon my head. I instantly felt better. The rest of lunch went by fine, and I didn't see Mr Kenton (or think of him that much) the rest of the day.
And then history ended.
As I gathered up my things, but still stayed in my seat, Sydney turned to look at me.
"Oh, you never told me. What did Mr. Kenton want?"
Great. The topic I most definitely did not want to discuss.
"Nothing really," I lied. "Just some stuff about how he liked my previous writing."
"Ooh," Sydney teased. "Teacher's pet.
I got up out of my seat. "Okay, please do not call me that." Sydney just laughed.
We made our way out of science and I dragged Sydney to my locker, pretending that I had to check on something to avoid Mr. Kenton. We eventually had to get to class and I entered the classroom with a hopefully un-effected look on my face.
Mr. Kenton was in the room, but by now it was nearly filled up. I took my seat, avoiding eye contact with him. This went on for the rest of the class period, and when the class ended I practically ran out with Sydney trailing beside me.
At our lockers, Sydney gave me a weirded out expression. "What was that all about?"
"Nothing," I said, shutting my locker door.
"Okay..." she said, hesitantly. "Anyway, we're going shopping this weekend."
As we walked out together, I raised my eyebrows at her. "But didn't we literally just go back to school shopping?"
"Yeah, but we need something totally fierce to wear on Monday. It's dress to impress day for the students. I think it's because it's our first full week of school."
