I walked up to the strange rust-colored building that read:

Fairland Academy

I shifted a little and a strange, sinking feeling grew in the pit of my stomach. I looked down to my gray scarf, blue coat with about a billion holes the size of quarters, my gray skirt that goes down to my knees and my black tights that fall into my worn-out black rain boots. I gulped and waddled toward the huge black and gold doorway while in my pocket I kept fumbling the health papers, acceptance forms, and birth certificate.

I found the front office and found a lady sitting behind a desk.

The dark skinned lady had black curly hair wrapped tightly into a bun. She had a plain white dress shirt under a beige sweater vest, which had the school crest on its top right corner, paired with a knee-length navy blue skirt. Her lightly wrinkled face hid two brown eyes and slightly below the nose were two dimples on the corners of her pink painted lips.

I stated in a confident voice, "Hello, my name is Emily Crossfield, and I have come to join the academy"

She asked for my acceptance certificate, health papers, and birth certificate in a stale voice while reaching out a hand.

I scrambled through my pocket and placed the wrinkled and sweaty documents in her hand.

As the lady scanned over the papers, I grew more and more anxious, not sure if I would be accepted into the academy. She then, took out a manila folder and neatly put the documents inside. She shoved the folder back inside the drawer and shut it back in place. She picked up the black land-line phone and dialed a number (001).

"Sir, Emily Crossfield has arrived, would you like me to send her in?"

A few unclear murmurs coming from the other end later, she hung up the phone and told me to see Mr. Taylor, the principal. She directed me with her thumb and said,
"He's the last door on the right."

I politely said thank you and rushed down the hall to find myself greeted by  a big wooden door.
