"You've all received the official statement of what occurred at Stark Industries last night. There have been unconfirmed reports that a robotic prototype malfunctioned and caused damage to the arc reactor. Fortunately, a member of Tony Stark's personal security staff-"

I was listening to Uncle Rhodey on the TV when dad started speaking, breaking my concentration.

"'Iron Man.' That's kind of catchy. It's got a nice ring to it," Dad said as he read the newspaper.

"I mean, it's not technically accurate," I reminded him with a sigh as I walked back over to him again.

"You're right. The suits a gold titanium alloy, but it's kind of evocative, the imagery, anyway," Dad said in agreement as Pepper ripped the tape from his nose and covered his bruises and cuts with makeup. She had already done so to my cut on my forehead this morning.

Coulson then came walking into the room with Alex behind him and held out some notecards to dad. "Here's your alibi."

Dad looked at him in confusion and slowly accepted them after closing his newspaper. "Okay."

Dad placed his newspaper to the side as he looked down at them and Coulson began explaining what they say.

"You and Ally were on your yacht."

"Yeah."

"We have port papers that put you in Avalon all night, and sworn statements from 50 of your guests," Coulson told him.

"See, I was thinking maybe we should say it was just Pepper and me alone on the island. Ally stayed home all alone with Alex," He said with a smirk, looking up at Pepper who looked unimpressed.

"Dad, please," I said with a blush since Alex's father figure was in the room.

"That's what happened," Coulson said with a no-nonsense tone.

"All right," dad nodded at him.

"Just read it, word for word," Coulson told him.

Dad nodded and began looking over it before he furrowed his brows in confusion. "There's nothing about Stane here."

"That's being handled. He's on vacation. Small aircraft have such a poor safety record," Alex spoke up from behind Coulson.

"But what about the whole cover story that it's a bodyguard. He's me... I mean, is that... that's kind of flimsy, don't you think," Dad questioned the two of them.

"This isn't our first rodeo, Mr. Stark. Just stick to the official statement, and soon, this will all be behind you and your daughter," Coulson told him before looking over at Pepper who finally finished putting makeup on dad's face. "You've got 90 seconds."

Coulson then moved to leave and Pepper looked at the TV briefly before following after Coulson to speak to him quickly. I looked over at Alex to see him getting ready to follow after his uncle when he was finished speaking with Pepper, so I walked over to speak to him before he left as well.
