Trois: Mother-daughter time

"V, I do love you but what in Cade's name is that?" Harley's eyes widened as they fell upon the open coffin sitting in the middle of Davina's room.

"That is Elijah Mikaelson." Davina smiled sheepishly at her mother.

"And what exactly is he doing in your room?" Harley could feel her anger rising. She never wanted Davina to be involved with any vampire business but Marcel clearly had other plans.

"Klaus offered him up as a peace offering to Marcel and what safer place to put a daggered original than in the room of one of the most powerful witches in New Orleans?" Davina beamed proudly because Marcel had entrusted her with something that important.

"Marcel's an idiot. He knows that Klaus will only allow him to have Elijah until he wants him back and yet he places the coffin with you, a girl he claims to care about." Harley's eyes flickered between yellow and her usual green, her anger spiking at the thought of Davina being in danger.

Davina gripped Harley's hand in her own and pulled her to her bed, pushing her to sit down. "I'm capable of doing this Mom, you know that."

Harley remembered when she met Davina Claire as if it was yesterday. She was passing through New Orleans, just there to visit Marcel who had been her friend for centuries. She and Marcel were spending the day together when Kieran came to them and asked them to stop the harvest. Harley always had a soft spot for children, that was one of the reasons she and Marcel got along so well. They were too late, two of the girls had already been killed by the time they got there. Marcel and Harley allowed the vampires to kill the witches but they didn't notice when a witch pulled one of the girls and slit her throat. It was only when they heard the heartbreaking scream of the last harvest girl did they realize what had happened.

She was being held by a warlock who Harley quickly disposed of with an angry yell and a flick of her wrist. She caught the girl as she fell and soothed her hair back. "It's okay. It's okay. I'm here and I'm not going to let anybody hurt you again."

Harley and Marcel sped away with her after that, a silent pact being formed that they would do whatever it took to ensure Davina was always safe. Even if it meant fighting with each other, their top priority would always be the teenage witch they had saved that day in the Lafayette Cemetery.

"I know you're capable Vina', I taught you everything you know. But that doesn't mean you should do something just because you have the ability to do it." Harley reached up and brushed away a stray curl from Davina's face.

"Now don't think I don't see that violin in the corner. I know you don't play violin so whose is that?" Harley bumped her shoulder with the smaller girl's as she changed the topic.
