Michi could have sworn that her heart had completely stopped in her chest, the feeling of his soft ― yet rough ― lips against hers making her stomach flutter. She tightened her hands in his; a silent message to not let go. It seemed as though he understood, for even when the practice game continued, he only stepped closer to her.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she thought that this was only a dream. That this moment was only her imagination and not reality. But the twinge of her heart when Tooru pulled away to catch his breath; it would have been enough to wake her.

His cheeks were tinged pink, his eyes hooded and darker than normal. Michi wasn't sure what she looked like, but she didn't necessarily care. Only one thought kept repeating in her head: He kissed me.

The sudden realization had her eyes growing twice as large, and she began to back away. When Oikawa only tightened his grasp on her hands, she stumbled on her words. "I ― you ― "

"What's wrong?" Tooru took another step towards her, sincere worry and concern etched on his features. "Did I do something ― "

"Yes!" She ripped her hands away from him, holding them to her chest. Tears threatened to fall once again, but she refused to let him see her like that twice. "I ― I don't know what gave you the idea to kiss me, b-but that's not ― I didn't ― " Her words began to fail her, and so she resorted to the one thing that made sense. "I hate you, Oikawa! So why can't you just leave me alone!"

She tried not to look at him, knowing that hurt and pain was evident in his features. With her aching heart, she looked away, willing her tears not to fall. But when Oikawa spoke, she could fell them growing.

"You know what? Whatever. Why did I even think you had changed your mind about me?" His voice was laced with venom, and when Michi dared a timid glance at him, Oikawa's eyes were watery. "I'm sorry I kissed you, okay? I'll never make that mistake ever again. And I'll even leave you alone from here on out. That should make you happy, right?"

Grumbling under his breath, Oikawa walked down the stairs with his head low, his arm wiping at his eyes and nose. Michi couldn't tear her gaze away from his retreating figure, confused and lonely and aching. Not caring ― and when Oikawa had disappeared from view ― Michi collapsed on the staircase, not bothering to hide the tears that overtook her.

Her shoulders shook and she made small noises, unable to stop her sorrow from surfacing. Every emotion she felt over the past week and a half; it all came flooding out in a storm of defeat. She didn't know what to do, or whether if she should even try to make sense of it.
