Riley Carson's Vera Wang Vina python embossed pumps echoed as she daintily hopped off her desk and onto the floor. She smoothly slid into her seat at the lab table, making sure she didn't flash any of the guys that were oggling her with their eyes wide. A simple wink and a toss of her layered blonde hair (that had a surprise flash of pink) sent them into a hormone crazed frenzy.

Skylar Dawson, Riley's best friend, slid into the seat beside her. She slyly pulled out her iPhone as Riley pulled out her Blackberry.

SkyHigh: Oh my god. How boring is this class?

RileyBabyy: Almost as terrible as Janet's new skirt ( :

Skylar took a peek at Janet Smithson's blinding neon green and orange plaid skirt. She made a gagging noise.

SkyHigh: Oh my. Who let her out of the house like that?

The two girls stifled laughter as Jane Salvatore snuck into class through the back door. She sat down in next to her partner who happened to be Janet, an oblivious victim to Riley and Skylar's constant critism. Jane quickly smiled as if she didn't want to be near Janet either.

Riley put away her Blackberry and pulled out a Chanel compact mirror. She did a quick once over and glanced to see who was looking at her. Pretty much everyone had gone back to work. Then, she saw Jane and stiffened. Seeing any of her former BFF's sent her back down a painful trip down Memory Lane.

Riley took a quick glance at Janet who seemed to be looking straight at her. When Janet saw Riley looking back at her, she blushed and quickly looked back down. Janet used to be the girl to be until Keana decided to knock her down a few pegs. Riley remembered the day like she remembered the designers in Vogue: with every single detail.

Keana had strutted her way over in her brand new wedges (something that every seventh grader at Rosewood Middle School had been afraid of wearing) and stood next to Janet. Back then, she was almost untouchable. The only person who dared approach her was the only girl who could be considered as competition. That was Keana Moore.

"Hey, Janet!" Keana said in a voice that dripped artificial sweetness. "So I heard you went to the doctor yesterday. Did he find a cure that infection?"

Janet's smug, I'm-better-than-you face dropped.

"What are you talking about?"

"That infection? You don't remember? What was it again?" Kea made a faux thinking face. Then she lit up. "Oh, yeah! Herpes, right?"

Everyone gasped and took a step back. Janet's faced paled to the same color as the tiled floor. A sickly green.

"What?" She said again, bewildered.

Keana had looked around at Janet's crowd of groupies.

"What? You guys didn't know?" She looked back at Janet, her face now said, That's right, bitch. I'm on top now.

Riley had been staring off into space so long that Mr. Walden had come over.

"Riley? Are you confused on the assignment?"

"What?" She said automatically. She took a quick look around.

"WTF?" Skylar mouthed.

Riley shrugged and turned back to Mr. Walden.

"Oh, no. I get it. I was just thinking it over a little." She plastered a sweet, I'm-a-good-student smile onto her face. He gave a quick nod and went back to his desk.

"What's wrong with you?" Skylar glanced over at her and then started to disinfect some goggles.

"Ew, no! Don't use those!" Riley rummaged through her over-sized bag and pulled out to pairs of pink goggles. "I ordered these last week. There is no way I'm going to use goggles hundreds of people use each day. That's disgusting."

Skylar giggled and slid them onto her face, adjusting her auburn hair as soon they were settled.

"Thanks, Ry! You're a genius." Skylar gave a quick wink and turned back to her test tube.

Riley smiled. She'd almost lost her cool, but then she remembered that popular girls didn't do that. The never let anyone see them down. Especially not her. She was Riley Carson and she was fabulous.
