It was a beautiful bright day in Washington State, with white fluffy clouds spread all throughout the baby blue sky. Birds chirped a sing song tune in the trees and the street wasn't all too busy which made this day even better.
Mary Hickman put her white sunglasses on and held her son's hand. He squinted up at her, "You look really pretty today, mommy." He was right, Mary was very beautiful. She had her signature pale blue dress on that had little blue flowers and grey birds on it. Around her neck was the pearl necklace her husband had given her on their wedding day. Her brown hair was pinned nicely to her head. Her skin was smooth and pale, she had beautiful turquoise eyes that sparkled every day, after all, she was Puyallup's beauty.
On her way back from dropping off her son, Mary ran into her best friend Susan who had a load of groceries in her arms.
"Well hello there, Susan. How are you this fine morning?"
Susan looked exhausted, "I'm doing well, Joe my next door neighbor has been awfully suspicious. This man leaves his house at one o'clock every morning and doesn't come back till seven."
"That is odd. What's his job like?"
"I believe he's a lab technician, but even his wife is suspicious since as far as she's aware, his hours at work haven't changed since the day he first started working there."
There was a cough right next to them and the two turned to look at who it was, Mary's eyes grew wide as she exclaimed, "Well, would you look at who it is, Barbara and Martha! Oh you two are gorgeous."
Martha went to Susan and asked if she needed any help carrying her bags, Susan obliged. The four women talked right there on the street corner until sunset.
"Would you look at the time," Barbara said, "I 'ought to go home and cook some dinner for the family. I'll see you ladies tomorrow at church." And with a final wave of her slim hand, Barbara headed back the way she came.
Mary was the last one to leave that corner. She stood there, watching the sun fade behind the horizon. The skies reds and oranges mixing together nicely. She sighed and headed home.
When she opened the front door, she dropped her purse and screamed. The sight before her was a truly horrid one, her husband and son...were dead.
